Risk of Rain 2 has 25 lunar items right now: 20 Lunar items and 5 Lunar Equipment, each a strong effect with a drawback attached, bought with Lunar Coins instead of gold. That includes Hallowed Concepts, the newest of the four expansions on the Steam page. Pocket Tactics’ list, last updated in April 2023, only has 16. My picks come from the numbers on each item.
Key takeaways
- There are 25 lunar items: 20 Lunar items and 5 Lunar Equipment. Seven came from DLC.
- A Lunar Pod costs 1 Lunar Coin and gives a random one. A Lunar Bud at the Bazaar Between Time costs 2 and shows you first.
- I’d take Shaped Glass and Gesture of the Drowned, and leave Egocentrism and Mercurial Rachis alone.
What are all the lunar items in Risk of Rain 2?
These are first-copy numbers from the wiki’s item list. Extra copies usually push the upside and the drawback further.
| Item | What it does | Added by |
|---|---|---|
| Beads of Fealty | Seems to do nothing. Carry it to the Obelisk to reach A Moment, Whole. | Base |
| Brittle Crown | 30% chance on hit to gain 2 gold (scales over time). Taking damage costs gold. | Base |
| Corpsebloom | Healing +100%, applied over time, capped at 10% of your health per second. | Base |
| Defiant Gouge | Using a Shrine summons enemies nearby. | Base |
| Egocentrism | An orbiting bomb every 3 seconds (360% damage, max 3). Every 60 seconds a random item converts into this. | Survivors of the Void |
| Essence of Heresy | Special becomes Ruin: damage stacks it, the skill detonates for 300% plus 120% per stack. | Base |
| Eulogy Zero | Items have a 5% chance to become a Lunar item instead. | Survivors of the Void |
| Focused Convergence | Teleporters charge 30% faster, but the zone is 50% smaller. | Base |
| Gesture of the Drowned | Equipment cooldown -50%, but it fires whenever it’s ready. | Base |
| Hooks of Heresy | Secondary becomes Slicing Maelstrom: 875% damage per second nearby, then a 700% blast that roots. | Base |
| Light Flux Pauldron | Skill cooldowns -50%, attack speed -50%. | Survivors of the Void |
| Longstanding Solitude | All gold converts to experience. Level ups give a free purchase. Gold costs +50% in multiplayer. | Seekers of the Storm |
| Mercurial Rachis | A Ward of Power at a random spot nearby. Enemies and allies within 16m deal +50% damage. | Base |
| Neutronium Weight | In combat: -30% damage, attack speed and movement speed, -35 armor. Hitting an enemy sends it to them. | Alloyed Collective |
| Purity | Skill cooldowns -2 seconds. Random effects roll an extra time for a bad outcome. | Base |
| Shaped Glass | Base damage +100%, max health -50%. | Base |
| Stone Flux Pauldron | Max health +100%, movement speed -50%. | Survivors of the Void |
| Strides of Heresy | Utility becomes Shadowfade: 3s intangible, +30% movement speed, heals 18.2% of max health. | Base |
| Transcendence | All but 1 health becomes regenerating shields. Max health +50%. | Base |
| Visions of Heresy | Primary becomes Hungering Gaze: 12 charges of tracking shards at 120% base damage. | Base |
| Effigy of Grief (Equipment) | Everyone inside is slowed 50% and loses 20 armor. Place up to 5. 15s cooldown. | Base |
| Glowing Meteorite (Equipment) | 20 seconds of meteors, 600% damage per blast to everyone. 140s cooldown. | Base |
| Helfire Tincture (Equipment) | Burns everyone within 15m for 12s: 24x on enemies, 0.5x on you, 0.25x on allies. 45s cooldown. | Base |
| Spinel Tonic (Equipment) | 20 seconds of +100% damage, +70% attack speed and more. 20% chance of a Tonic Affliction after (-5% all stats). 60s cooldown. | Base |
| Totem of Sacrifice (Equipment) | Places a temporary Altar of Sacrifice with friendly fire. Rewards after 60s based on kills inside. Consumed on use. | Hallowed Concepts |
Survivors of the Void added four of these, and the other three expansions added one each. The team’s dev diary for Hallowed Concepts promised “one lunar equipment item”, and the wiki lists that as the Totem of Sacrifice. Hallowed Concepts’ Hexes and Hallowed Items are separate tiers.
How do you get lunar items?
Chests and other common loot won’t drop them, so you need Lunar Coins. A Lunar Pod out on the stages costs 1 coin and drops a random one you’ve unlocked, and you don’t see which until you’ve paid.
The Bazaar Between Time is the other way in. You just need 1 coin at a Newt Altar, then finish the Teleporter and take the Blue Portal next to it. A Blue Portal can also turn up on its own, but the Altar is the sure way. Inside are 5 Lunar Buds at 2 coins each, with the item on show, and a Lunar Shop Refresher rerolls the rest for 1 coin, then 2, then 4.
So a Bazaar trip for one item costs 3 coins, against 1 for a Pod. I’d pay the extra 2, because a Pod can hand you Egocentrism. Only items someone in the run has unlocked can appear.
How do you get Lunar Coins?
Coins carry over between runs, unlike gold. Any enemy has a 0.5% chance to drop one, but the wiki says that halves with every drop in a run. Obliterating at the Obelisk in A Moment, Fractured pays 5, beating Mithrix and escaping pays 10, and each Challenge pays up to 10 the first time.
Carry Beads of Fealty to the Obelisk and you land in A Moment, Whole instead, where a Twisted Scavenger’s backpack holds 10 more, if you can beat it.
Which lunar items are worth taking?
Shaped Glass is the one I’d take first. Double base damage for half your health is a trade you can read in one line. The wiki says the real cost is losing one-shot protection, and two copies leaves you on 25% health, so I’d stop at one.
Gesture of the Drowned is next. It halves your equipment cooldown and the catch is losing control of when it fires. A 2019 patch note says it “doesn’t have stacking drawbacks”, unlike most other Lunar items. Just don’t pair it with The Crowdfunder, which the wiki says eats your gold.
We could sit through the full Teleporter charge, or take Focused Convergence and get it done 30% faster in half the zone. Transcendence is harder to call: shields wait for 7 seconds without damage, and the wiki says healing items become mostly redundant.
The four Heresy items each replace one skill. Hold all four and you turn into the Heretic, who can’t be picked at the start of a run.
I’d leave Egocentrism alone. A random item converting every 60 seconds is 10 items gone in 10 minutes. Mercurial Rachis buffs enemies as much as you, at a spot you don’t choose. Purity makes every chance roll worse, so skip it if your build runs on chance items.
Neutronium Weight is a hot potato: you only want it so you can throw it. Longstanding Solitude raises gold costs 50% in multiplayer, per the patch notes, so ask your team first.
For equipment, I’d look at Spinel Tonic first. A 20% affliction chance per use means roughly one -5% every five uses, so I’d save it for bosses.
One reason to take five anyway: the games.gg Hallowed Concepts guide says REX’s Proliferation needs a win while holding 5 different Lunar items, and duplicates don’t count. Regret one? Lunar items can’t be scrapped, but a Cleansing Pool swaps a random one for a Pearl or an Irradiant Pearl.
