Acolyte is the locked Survivor in Risk of Rain 2's Hallowed Concepts DLC, and she requires more effort to access than Enforcer, who unlocks automatically the moment you enable the DLC. To get Acolyte, you need to collect specific items, trigger a modified Teleporter event, fight through a dedicated arena, and then revive her before you leave. Miss the final revival step and the whole run counts for nothing.
What Do You Need Before Starting?
Two things gate the entire unlock chain: the N'Tormat Curio and at least one N'Tormat Page. Both drop from the same sources, so you can grab them together.
The two ways to get them are completing a Wake event or finishing a Trial. If Wake events aren't showing up in your runs, head to the Bazaar Between Time, drop into the lower pit, and look for a Trial Gong. Activating it starts a Winnowing, which is a Trial variant with its own completion objective. Finish the Trial, collect both the N'Tormat and a Page from the rewards, and you're ready to proceed.

How to Find and Activate the Shrine of Descent
Once you have the N'Tormat and a Page, the Shrine of Descent starts appearing on subsequent stages. It looks like a modified Shrine of the Mountain, identifiable by a curved structure with a small floating orb above it. Walk up and read the interaction prompt if you're unsure whether you've found the right shrine.
The single most important rule here: activate the Shrine before you start the Teleporter. Triggering the Teleporter first locks you out of the Soulbound Threshold route for that stage. After activation, the message "Soulbinding Trial awaits" confirms the encounter is set up correctly.
If the Shrine isn't appearing, double-check that both the N'Tormat and a Page are actually in your inventory. The Shrine won't spawn if either prerequisite is missing.

How to Complete the Soulbinding Teleporter Event
With the Shrine activated, start the stage Teleporter normally. The Soulbinding effect changes how the fight behaves: the charge indicator can push past the usual 100% threshold, and additional enemy waves keep arriving. Don't assume the event ends when the bar fills.
Stay mobile. Waves of enemies and bosses will pressure you throughout, and standing still in one spot under concentrated fire is a reliable way to die before reaching the arena. Clear dangerous targets first, then return to the center.
When the Soulbinding encounter finally ends, a Ritual Portal appears. Enter the Ritual Portal specifically, not the regular stage exit. The portal takes you directly to Soulbound Threshold.

What Happens Inside Soulbound Threshold?
Soulbound Threshold is a dedicated arena. Follow the ramps toward the center and interact with the console to start the ritual.
The encounter runs through four combat waves before the final boss appears. Each wave must be fully cleared before the next begins. If the ritual stops progressing, search the outer platforms and surrounding area for a remaining enemy rather than spamming the console. Required targets sometimes end up away from the center.
Builds that rely on staying in a fixed position will feel the pressure here. Keep a repositioning option available and don't burn through all your recovery resources on the early waves.

How to Defeat the Anima Harvester
After clearing all four waves, the Anima Harvester spawns as the final boss. This is a sustained single-target fight against a durable enemy, which plays differently from the wave-clearing that came before it. Builds that excel at clearing groups may find this transition awkward if they lack focused damage output.
Use the arena space. The Anima Harvester telegraphs its attacks, so keeping enough distance to read incoming moves and reposition is more effective than trying to out-tank it in close range.
Once the Anima Harvester dies, the exit portal opens. Stop before you enter it.

How to Revive Acolyte and Complete A Broken Ritual
After the Anima Harvester falls, Acolyte is lying on the ground near the exit portal. She's easy to walk past if you head straight for the portal. Search the floor around the final boss area until you find her body and the interaction prompt.
Approach her and offer a qualifying healing item from your inventory. The item is consumed in the process. Once the offering is accepted, A Broken Ritual completes and Acolyte becomes selectable in your Survivor screen for all future runs.

Which items can revive Acolyte?
Several healing items qualify. Any one of the following works:
| Item | Rarity | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Medkit | Common | Easiest to carry without impacting build |
| Cautious Slug | Common | Safe backup option |
| Leeching Seed | Common | Reliable and common drop |
| Bison Steak | Common | Works fine |
| Harvester's Scythe | Uncommon | Qualifies but harder to spare |
| Power Elixir | Uncommon | Can auto-consume on low health, risky |
| Infusion | Uncommon | Qualifies |
| Topaz Brooch | Common | Qualifies |
Defensive items like Tougher Times and Dio's Best Friend do not work, even though they relate to survival. Only healing-type items qualify.
Watch out for Power Elixir specifically. It can trigger automatically when your health drops low, which means it might already be gone by the time you reach Acolyte after a tough Anima Harvester fight.
Why Didn't the Unlock Trigger?
A few specific failure points catch players out:
- Shrine of Descent never appeared. Check that both the N'Tormat and a Page are in your inventory, not just completed as objectives.
- Completed the Teleporter but no Ritual Portal appeared. The Shrine must be activated before the Teleporter starts. You can't retroactively trigger the Soulbinding event.
- Ritual stopped progressing inside Soulbound Threshold. A required enemy is still alive somewhere in the arena. Search the outer platforms.
- Defeated the Anima Harvester but Acolyte stayed locked. The boss kill alone doesn't complete the unlock. Find her body near the portal and complete the item offering.
- Found Acolyte but couldn't offer an item. Your Power Elixir may have auto-consumed, or you only had defensive items. Carry a common healing item as a backup from the start of the run.
Once Acolyte is unlocked, she specializes in close-range glaive attacks, ranged strikes, and abilities that trade her own life force for additional power.
