Stellar Blade Complete Edition comes out on Switch 2 at 3pm GMT on November 5, which is 7am PST and midnight on November 6 in Korea and Japan. It runs at 60fps docked and handheld, but that’s 30fps with frame generation on top, and you’ll be able to switch it off. If you’ve got any other device to play it on, I would play it there.

Key takeaways

  • Stellar Blade unlocks worldwide at the same moment: 15:00 GMT on November 5, or 00:00 KST on November 6.
  • It costs $59.99, £54.99 or €59.99, and the whole game is on the cartridge, with no download needed.
  • The 60fps target comes from frame generation on a 30fps base, and Shift Up added a toggle to turn it off.
  • The Complete Edition includes the NieR:Automata and NIKKE DLC, and four free Bayonetta outfits arrive on the same day.

What time does Stellar Blade come out on Switch 2?

Shift Up’s announcement gives one simultaneous worldwide release: 00:00 KST/JST on November 6, which it lists as 07:00 PST and 15:00 GMT on November 5. That’s why you’ll see both November 5 and November 6 quoted. They’re the same moment.

Because it’s one global unlock rather than midnight in each region, players in the Americas and Europe get it during the day on the 5th.

Does Stellar Blade run at 60fps on Switch 2?

On paper, yes. In practice it’s 30fps with interpolated frames in between. Shift Up’s technical director, DongKi Lee, told NintendoEverything that “we targeted 60 frames per second in both handheld mode and docked mode”, and then explained how: “We have 30 frames per second to have it even and then use interpolation.” That interpolation is AMD’s FSR 3.1 frame generation, with DLSS doing the upscaling to 720p in handheld and 1080p docked, according to KitGuru’s write-up.

Frame generation works by building an extra frame between each pair of real ones, so the picture moves more smoothly. It doesn’t make the game react faster to your inputs, though, because the game itself is still running at 30, and it can add a bit of lag. Lee said keeping “even latency for players” mattered to the team. After players tried the Switch 2 demo, Shift Up posted that it had “decided to add a Frame Generation toggle at release”. So you’ll be able to pick a straight 30fps if the interpolation bothers you.

Does 60 FPS in a handheld change it for me? I don’t see it. I grew up when we had like 12 FPS, and games ran like booty. But there is definitely a younger audience that can easily see the difference between 30 and 60, and not having 60 is a big thing for them. If that’s you, the toggle is the setting to try first.

How does Stellar Blade look and play on Switch 2?

Polygon’s impressions, published on November 2, are mostly positive. It says it “runs smooth” and that it hadn’t “encountered any notable framerate drops, even during an intense boss fight”.

The weak spot is handheld. Polygon says Eve’s long ponytail “barely renders during gameplay” in handheld, and that hair in cutscenes looks like it exists “in 240p”. Docking the console mostly fixes that, though distant bushes and rubble still pop in. It also measured about three hours of battery life in handheld on default settings at near-max brightness.

What’s in Stellar Blade Complete Edition?

Shift Up says the Complete Edition “includes all previously released content”, including the NieR:Automata and NIKKE DLC. On Switch 2 it costs $59.99, £54.99 or €59.99, and a limited SteelBook edition is sold through some retailers.

The Bayonetta collaboration lands at the same time: four new outfits for Eve inspired by Bayonetta, free on Switch 2, PS5 and PC from the same unlock time. Pre-orders also unlock a few cosmetics early, including the Planet Diving Suit in white.

There’s a free demo on the Switch 2 eShop as well, which is the version players gave feedback on before the frame generation toggle was added.

What kind of game is Stellar Blade?

If you skipped it on PS5 and PC, it’s a third-person action game where you play Eve, a soldier fighting monsters called Naytibas to save what’s left of humanity. The combat is built around a sword, perfect parries and a blink-dodge that puts you behind an enemy for a follow-up combo. Polygon describes it as “not quite on the level of a Soulslike” for difficulty, though regular enemies can still give you a hard time on the middle setting. Outfits for Eve unlock as you play, and a sequel is already on the way.

Is the whole game on the Switch 2 cartridge?

Yes. Shift Up says the physical version “ships with the entire game data on the cartridge: no game-key card, no additional download required to play”. That was first reported back in September, when we reported it was fully on the cartridge. It’s worth knowing because a lot of Switch 2 boxes only carry a key to download the game.

Should you play Stellar Blade on Switch 2, PS5 or PC?

I would play almost nothing on the Switch 2. But that’s only because of Minecraft burning me, and Switch just not being able to be a good port of Minecraft. It might be great for Stellar Blade on Switch 2, but if you have any other device to play games on, and it’s not a Nintendo first-party game, I would play it on the other device.

Stellar Blade is already on both. It came out on PS5 on April 26, 2024, and on PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store on June 11, 2025, where it sold a million copies on Steam. The Switch 2 version is the one to get if handheld is the point, or if the Switch 2 is the only thing you’ve got. Its port was first confirmed in June, so it’s been a long wait for Switch 2 owners.
