Subnautica 2 Coming to Xbox Game ...

Subnautica 2 launches into Early Access on May 14, 2026, and the two questions everyone keeps asking are: can you get in before that date, and does Xbox Game Pass cover it? The answers are no and yes, but the details matter if you're deciding how to spend your money.

Can you play Subnautica 2 before Early Access launches?

No. There's no pre-Early Access period, no founder beta, and no premium tier that gets you in ahead of May 14, 2026. Developer Unknown Worlds Entertainment has made it clear that Early Access opens simultaneously for all players on that date.

This matters because plenty of recent survival games have added "early early access" windows on top of their standard early access launches, charging extra for the privilege. Subnautica 2 isn't doing that. Everyone gets in on the same day.

Is Subnautica 2 on Xbox Game Pass?

Yes. Subnautica 2 is part of the Xbox Game Pass May 2026 Wave 1 lineup. To access it through Game Pass, you need one of these two tiers:

If you already subscribe to Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass, Subnautica 2 Early Access is included at no additional cost. That makes the subscription a solid deal here, especially given that the standalone purchase price for Early Access carries its own cost (covered in the pricing guide linked separately).

What platforms can you play Subnautica 2 Early Access on?

Subnautica 2 Early Access is available on PC and Xbox through the Game Pass ecosystem. The May 14 launch covers both platforms for Game Pass subscribers.

Why does the Game Pass inclusion matter?

Survival games in Early Access are a gamble by nature. You're paying for an unfinished product on the promise that it will improve over time. The original Subnautica spent years in Early Access before its 1.0 release, and the sequel is expected to follow a similar long development arc.

Having it on Game Pass removes that financial risk entirely for subscribers. If the Early Access build turns out to be rougher than expected, you've lost nothing. If it's excellent from day one, you're already playing it. That calculus is straightforward.
