Overview
Warrior Cats: Clans of the Forest is an action-adventure RPG developed by Bamtang Games and published by Trailmark Games, set across the Lake Territories made famous by Erin Hunter's long-running book series. Players create their own Warrior Cat from scratch, then earn standing within their Clan through quests, exploration, and turn-based combat against rival cats, predators, and wilderness threats. The game launched October 23, 2026 on PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.
The game runs across 6 distinct territories, each tied to one of the four Clans or a sacred location. ThunderClan's dense forests, RiverClan's marshlands, ShadowClan's dark pine swamps, and WindClan's open moors all have distinct terrain that shapes how players move and hunt. The Moonpool and The Island serve as set-piece destinations with story significance drawn straight from the books.

Three separate game modes give the experience real structural variety. Prophecy Mode contains four original stories about Clan life, Defender Mode challenges players to survive endless waves of the game's toughest enemies in a single run, and Skirmish Mode lets players battle each other online asynchronously.
Gameplay and mechanics
The core combat system is turn-based, supporting battles up to 3 versus 3. There are 75 unique combat moves to discover and unlock, giving progression real depth beyond simple stat increases. Enemies range from mice and squirrels to badgers, foxes, and Dobermanns, scaling in threat as players push into new territories.

Key mechanics at a glance:
- 75 unlockable combat moves
- 3v3 turn-based battle system
- Scent tracking and environmental puzzles
- Foraging and den crafting
- Asynchronous online camp visits
Outside of combat, players forage materials for den crafting, track and hunt prey like birds and rabbits, climb trees, and solve environmental puzzles. The activity loop feels grounded in what the books describe as actual Clan survival, not just RPG filler.

How much content does the game have?
Procedural generation handles characters, quests, and stories, so no two playthroughs follow the same path. That system, combined with three distinct modes and 6 territories to work through, gives the game meaningful replayability for both series fans and players new to the fiction. The cat creator supports millions of possible combinations, and players can interact with 9 named cats from the original books.
The asynchronous multiplayer layer adds a social dimension without requiring real-time coordination. Players can visit a friend's camp, craft items for them, or gift resources, keeping the community side of the game low-pressure and accessible across platforms.
World and setting
Bamtang Games built the game around an original story rather than adapting a specific book arc, which gives it room to introduce new narrative beats while still featuring familiar cats and locations. StarClan, the spiritual ancestors of the Clans, figures into the story, and sacred sites like the Moonpool carry the same weight they do in the source material.

The territorial design does real work here. Each Clan's home ground has a distinct visual identity and feel that matches how the books describe them. Moving from WindClan's exposed moors into ShadowClan's pine swamps isn't just a map transition; the tone shifts noticeably. For fans of the series, that fidelity to setting is likely the game's strongest selling point alongside the turn-based RPG progression that finally gives this franchise a mechanical backbone worth building on.
