If you own a collection of Nintendo amiibo figures, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book gives them a real purpose beyond shelf decoration. Scanning supported figures feeds Tokens directly into Mr. E's book, which you spend on unlocking discoveries and hints as you work through the game's 6-chapter campaign. Eight figures are fully compatible, but even figures outside that list still pay out a small reward. Here's everything you need to know to get the most out of every scan.
What amiibo are compatible with Yoshi and the Mysterious Book?
Eight amiibo figures work fully with the game. They span three Nintendo series:
The Yoshi's Woolly World series accounts for 5 of the 8 compatible figures. If you only own one amiibo and want the best odds of a strong Fortune, any of the Yarn Yoshi variants or the standard Yoshi figures are your safest bets.

How does the Fortune system work?
When you scan a compatible amiibo, the game rolls a random Fortune before calculating your Token reward. There are 4 Fortune tiers for supported figures, plus a fixed result for incompatible ones:
The gap between a Fantastic Fortune and a Bad Fortune is huge: 200 Tokens versus 10. Since the Fortune is random, you can't force the top tier, but scanning compatible figures every day gives you more chances at higher rewards over time.
How to scan amiibo and collect your Tokens
Step 1: Access amiibo Fortune from the main menu
You can't scan amiibo from inside a level. Press the Plus Button while viewing the book in the main menu to open the amiibo Fortune option. This is the only entry point for scanning.
Step 2: Place your amiibo on the NFC touchpoint
Place the amiibo figure on the NFC touchpoint of the right Joy-Con, which sits on the right analog stick. The game reads the figure's chip and assigns your Fortune and Token reward automatically.
Step 3: Spend Tokens on discoveries and hints
Tokens unlock discoveries and hints inside Mr. E's book. Discoveries fill in entries about the creatures and world you encounter, while hints give you guidance on progressing through the book's contents. If you're working toward full completion, spending Tokens on hints is a practical shortcut when you're stuck.

What is the daily scan limit?
Each individual amiibo can only be scanned once per day. You can scan multiple different figures in a single session, but scanning the same figure twice in one day won't generate a second reward.
The practical takeaway: build a habit of scanning your compatible amiibo every day. Token accumulation is steady if you stay consistent, and the cost of skipping a day is a missed roll you can't recover.
Is it worth buying amiibo just for this game?
Amiibo scanning is a supplementary Token source rather than the primary progression path. Tokens are also obtainable through normal gameplay, so amiibo figures accelerate your progress rather than gate it. If you already own Yoshi-series or Super Smash Bros. figures, scanning them daily is a no-effort bonus. Buying new figures specifically for Token farming is harder to justify unless you want the physical collectibles anyway.
