Battlefield 6 Season 4: Pacific Front Rides Out July 21 - Roundtable Co-Op

Battlefield 6 patch 1.4.1.0 drops on July 21st, and it's the biggest content push the game has seen since launch. Tsuru Reef, Wake Island, three new weapons, naval warfare mechanics, and a fresh REDSEC ranked season are all landing at once. The patch notes are already live, so here's everything you need to know before the servers go down.

What's new in Battlefield 6 Season 4?

The headliner is Tsuru Reef, described as the largest Battlefield map ever built. It's designed around the new naval warfare systems, putting the RCB-90 Patrol Boat and NSW RHIB at the centre of large-scale water combat. Wake Island also returns, one of the most recognisable maps in the franchise's history.

Three weapons join the arsenal: the BROD 3, EF88, and VSSM. They cover different playstyles, giving players a clean spread of options to experiment with from day one of the season. A new battle pass and a Battlefield Pro pass are also available for anyone wanting to grind or spend.

tip
The RCB-90 Patrol Boat and NSW RHIB were already available in REDSEC before this update, so players who've spent time in ranked will have a head start on handling them.

What changed with swimming and water gameplay?

Water combat gets a full rework in 1.4.1.0. Swimming animations, physics, and wave behaviour have all been updated. The two biggest functional changes are drag and revive in water and the ability to spawn on squadmates who are swimming in deep water. Both of these open up serious tactical options on Tsuru Reef that weren't possible before.

Aim assist now fully tracks enemies while they're swimming, fall damage is slightly reduced when landing in shallow water, and parachutes deploy correctly near the water surface. Bullets also lose damage while travelling through water and may deal no damage at all after enough distance, which adds a layer of realism to underwater firefights.

tip
Spotting is now blocked while underwater. You can't spot enemies from below the surface, and any spotted targets get cleared from the minimap the moment they dive in. Keep that in mind when pursuing enemies into water on Tsuru Reef.

How does the slide movement fix affect combat?

Slide activation now requires a slightly higher movement speed, which cuts out the cases where players could trigger a slide without fully sprinting or while crouch-sprinting. Sliding also no longer retriggers when you hold the crouch input after an initial slide, and it won't fire off when landing from a jump if you released crouch before hitting the ground.

These are small changes on paper, but they tighten up the movement feel noticeably. Unintentional slides in close-quarters situations were a real frustration, and this patch addresses the root cause rather than just patching around it. If you want to dial in your movement alongside these changes, the aim settings and controls guide is worth revisiting.

What are the M320A1 nerfs in REDSEC?

The M320A1 takes a significant hit in ranked. The Level 2 Grenadier Trait no longer grants bonus HE ammunition immediately on reaching that level, and the maximum HE ammo increase drops from 5 to 4. The Level 3 Cluster Munitions Trait gets hit even harder:

The dispersion pattern has also been adjusted so bomblets spread out more after impact instead of clustering in the same spot. This was clearly overperforming in ranked, and the numbers reflect a weapon being brought back into line rather than gutted entirely.

warning
Vehicle Keycards, Main Battle Tanks, and Infantry Fighting Vehicles have been removed from Ranked Battle Royale entirely in this update. If your REDSEC strategy relied on any of those, you'll need to adapt.

UI, HUD, and quality-of-life fixes

The UI pass in this update is extensive. Kill indicators now expand outwards and fade faster, reducing screen clutter. Incoming hit radial blur has been pulled back near the screen centre and attenuates towards the edges, making damage feedback less distracting without removing it entirely. Interior map details now appear correctly on the minimap, which has been a visible gap for a while.

Obliteration gets several fixes: the bomb timeout timer now updates correctly, the Commander Tactical Advice system is back and works alongside Player-Placed Tactical Advice, and bomb carriers no longer receive a "Bomb Dropped" notification when they're eliminated. These are the kinds of bugs that quietly erode trust in a mode, and cleaning them up matters.

On the settings side, the patch adds support for NVIDIA DLSS Multi Frame Generation x5 and x6, Dynamic Multi-Frame Generation, and Vsync with DLSS Frame Generation. PC players with compatible hardware will see a meaningful performance ceiling increase.

What did the AI bots get updated for Season 4?

Bots received a broad behaviour pass to support water combat. They can now swim to shore, use boats to navigate to objectives, respond to pick-up requests, abandon beached boats, and cross shallow water in land vehicles. Before this update, bots were essentially useless in any water-adjacent scenario, which made practice sessions on water maps feel hollow.

Two specific bot fixes stand out: they no longer take all available boats at the start of a round (leaving some for actual players), and they no longer immediately drive boats away before players can board as passengers.

Audio and Portal updates worth knowing

The audio pass adds voice-over lines for several underserved scenarios: female soldier lines for drowning and surfacing, new Commander lines for Obliteration M-COM objectives, and soldier lines after breaching and resurfacing from underwater. Sea vehicle audio responsiveness through waves has also been improved, which matters on a map as water-heavy as Tsuru Reef.

Portal creators get a solid set of new tools, including the GetPlayer and GetVehicle functions, an IsClosed property on Waypoint Paths, and Andy's Custom Breakthrough Template added to the SDK. Season 3 weapons, attachments, and gadgets are now available in Portal as well.

For the full picture on how this update fits into the game's trajectory, the Blastpoint update breakdown covers the previous major patch, and the Season 4 Naval Warfare release date guide has the confirmed content details for what's coming alongside this drop.

If you're jumping in fresh or returning after a break, the full Battlefield 6 strategy guides collection has everything you need to get up to speed before July 21st.
