Overview
Broforce is a 2D side-scrolling run-and-gun game developed by Free Lives and published by Devolver Digital, released in October 2015. The premise is straightforward: play as over-the-top parodies of iconic action heroes, shoot and explode your way through terrorist-occupied levels, and rescue prisoners to unlock new playable characters. What makes it work is the fully destructible terrain system, which turns every level into a chaotic sandbox where a single misplaced grenade can collapse the ground beneath you.
The Broforce Forever update, the game's final major content drop, expanded the roster with six new bros including Seth Brondle, Xebro, Desperabro, Bro Gummer, Demolition Bro, and the teenage Slayer. Four new Muscle Temple challenge levels were added alongside new enemy types like Motorbike Maniacs and bazooka-laden blimps. Completing a Muscle Temple unlocks one of four new flex moves usable by any character, adding a small layer of cross-character progression.

Gameplay and mechanics
The core loop in Broforce centers on lateral momentum and explosive decision-making. Each bro brings a distinct primary weapon, secondary weapon, and special ability:

Rescuing a prisoner mid-level randomly swaps your current bro for a new one, which keeps runs unpredictable and forces you to adapt on the fly. The Explosion Run mode adds time pressure to this formula, with terrain literally collapsing around you as you race through levels.

Does Broforce support multiplayer?
Yes. Broforce supports up to four players in local and online co-op, and the chaos scales directly with the headcount. Four players with different abilities tearing through destructible terrain simultaneously turns already-frantic levels into complete mayhem. The game also includes competitive Deathmatch modes for players who want to turn that destructive energy against each other instead of terrorists.

Content and replayability
Broforce ships with a full campaign, the Explosion Run time attack mode, co-op and competitive multiplayer, and a level editor that lets players build and share custom stages. The community has generated a substantial library of user-created levels, each rated by players for its bro-worthiness. With the Broforce Forever update folded into the base game, new players get the expanded campaign with additional unlocks from the start.
The Muscle Temple challenge levels represent some of the harder content in the game, each built around specific enemy combinations and hazard sets that test how well you actually know your roster. Unlocking all four flex moves requires clearing all four temples, giving completionists a concrete target beyond the main campaign.
