Overview
Burnout Paradise Remastered is the definitive version of Criterion Games' open-world arcade racer, developed for this release by Stellar Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts. The remaster launched on March 16, 2018, and brings the full Paradise City experience to PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Every street, shortcut, and smash point from the original is here, rebuilt and running at 4K resolution on supported hardware.
Paradise City is a genuinely impressive open world for a driving game. The map stretches from a dense downtown grid packed with intersections to open mountain roads where top-speed runs feel genuinely dangerous. There are no menus to navigate between events. You find a race, a road rage challenge, or a stunt run by simply driving to the right intersection and hitting the gas. The boost system ties directly into risk, since you refill boost by driving into oncoming traffic, narrowly avoiding crashes, and pulling off takedowns. Aggression is always the fastest route.
What does the multiplayer offer?
Online play supports up to 8 players and is built around free-roaming rather than structured lobbies. Players can issue challenges to each other anywhere in the open world, from stunt challenges to road rage battles, without ever leaving the city. It is a social structure that encourages organic competition rather than sitting in menus waiting for matchmaking.
The cooperative elements are worth highlighting too. Groups can work together on specific city challenges, like finding all the billboards to smash or locating hidden super jumps, which gives the online mode a reason to exist beyond pure competition.
Content and replayability
The full vehicle roster runs to over 150 cars once all DLC content is counted, ranging from nimble stunt cars to heavy muscle vehicles built for takedowns. Each car has a handling profile that genuinely changes how you approach events, and unlocking higher license tiers by completing events with different vehicles gives the progression loop real staying power.
Big Surf Island is the highlight of the included DLC. It functions as a self-contained zone with a distinct feel from the main city, built around longer jumps and more open terrain. Reaching it requires a boat trip from the mainland, which is a small but memorable detail.
The ESRB rating sits at Everyone 10+, and the game holds a 4.49-star rating from over 13,000 PlayStation Store ratings, which reflects how well the core experience has aged.
