Crimson Desert Boss Mounts Guide: Alpine Ibex and Rock Tusk Warthog

Patch 1.01.01 added five new mounts to Crimson Desert, and two of them stand out from the rest: the Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex and the Rock Tusk Warthog. These aren't handed to you through a vendor or a simple side quest. Both require you to track down named boss enemies, collect unique crafting materials, and visit a specific NPC to convert those drops into rideable companions. Here's exactly how to get both.

What are the new boss mounts in Crimson Desert?

The Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex and the Rock Tusk Warthog are two of the five mounts introduced in the 1.01.01 update. Unlike standard mounts, these boss variants require players to defeat named world bosses and craft a Sigil of Solidarity through Elowen at the Witch's Lair in Hernand. Both mounts are usable for travel across Pywell once unlocked.

How to get the Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex

This mount sits behind a fairly long prerequisite chain, so don't expect to grab it early. Here's the full path:

Step 1: Unlock the Pailune region

Finish Chapter 7 to gain access to the Pailune region. This is non-negotiable. The entire quest chain for this mount lives there.

Step 2: Complete the Healing Pailune main quest

Progress into Chapter 8 and clear the Healing Pailune main quest. This opens up the faction quest lines you need.

Step 3: Work through the faction quests

Three faction chains must be completed in order:

  1. Pailune Militia quests (unlocks the Skoghorn Tribe quests)
  2. Skoghorn Tribe quests (unlocks the Longleaf Tribe quests)
  3. Longleaf Tribe quests (where the actual mount quest begins)

Step 4: Start The Sport Hunter quest

Inside the Longleaf Tribe quest line, pick up the Concern of the Tannery mission. Accept the bounty notice attached to it, which triggers The Sport Hunter quest. Follow the quest marker to the designated location.

Step 5: Defeat Moren, the Mistwood Huntmaster

At the marked location, you'll face Moren, the Mistwood Huntmaster. This is a two-stage fight, so don't ease up after the first phase ends. The second phase hits harder than the first. Keep your healing items ready. Clearing this fight rewards you with the Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex Horns.

Step 6: Craft the Sigil of Solidarity

Head to the Witch's Lair in Hernand and speak to Elowen. Hand over the horns, and she'll craft the Sigil of Solidarity for you. This item is what actually summons the Alpine Ibex as a rideable mount.

How to get the Rock Tusk Warthog

The Rock Tusk Warthog has a shorter prerequisite chain compared to the Alpine Ibex, but the boss itself is no pushover.

Step 1: Access the Crimson Desert region

You need to have unlocked the Crimson Desert region before this quest becomes available.

Step 2: Find the ruins west of the Red River

Travel to the center of the ruins located west of the Red River. The exact spot is marked once you're in range, but the ruins are the key landmark to navigate toward.

Step 3: Clear the enemies to trigger Master of the Wetlands

Defeat all enemies in the area. Once cleared, the Master of the Wetlands quest activates automatically. This is what spawns the named boss.

Step 4: Defeat Ravok of the Savage Fangs

Ravok of the Savage Fangs is another two-stage boss fight. The fight follows a similar structure to Moren, with the second stage ramping up aggression. Finishing the battle drops the Rock Tusk Warthog Molar.

Step 5: Craft the Sigil of Solidarity

Same as the Alpine Ibex: bring the molar to Elowen at the Witch's Lair in Hernand. She converts it into the Sigil of Solidarity, unlocking the Rock Tusk Warthog as a summonable mount.

What do boss mounts offer over standard mounts?

Both the Alpine Ibex and the Rock Tusk Warthog are labeled as Boss variants, which distinguishes them from the regular mount pool. The effort required to unlock them reflects their status as prestige collectibles rather than pure utility upgrades. That said, they function as fully rideable mounts for travel across Pywell, making them practical as well as visually distinct.

The boss mount unlock system, where you defeat a named enemy, collect a unique drop, and convert it through a specific NPC, looks like it could be a repeating template for future updates. If Pearl Abyss continues adding boss mounts this way, the Witch's Lair in Hernand will become a regular stop.
