The Abyss Heuklang has been sitting in Crimson Desert since launch, taunting players who could pick it up and cradle it but never actually keep it. A recent Pearl Abyss patch changed that, finally unlocking this jet-black cat as a fully claimable companion. The process is surprisingly quick once you know where to look, and there's no trust-grinding required.
Where is the Abyss Heuklang?
The Abyss Heuklang lives in the Axiom Archive, the Abyss area located above Hernand Town. You access the Abyss by pressing R3 while standing above Hernand. The Axiom Archive unlocks naturally through the Main Quest during Chapter 1, so you won't need to do anything special to reach it.
Once inside, head toward the library section of the Axiom Archive. The cat can be found napping on a block just to the left of the entrance during the day, while GameRant's guide places it sleeping on the right pillar near the library. Either way, it's hard to miss once you're in the right area. Climb the pillar or approach the block and you'll get the prompt.
How do you tame the Abyss Heuklang?
Here's the part that surprises most players: there's no trust bar to fill, no milk or bird meat to feed it, and no waiting around. Press Square (PlayStation) or X (Xbox) to select Take In, and the Abyss Heuklang is yours immediately, as confirmed by GameRant's guide.
This is a significant departure from standard pet taming in Crimson Desert, where you'd normally need to build trust through petting and feeding before a cat accepts you. The Heuklang skips all of that.
That said, if you somehow don't have full trust with it the fallback is the standard cat routine:
- Pet the cat repeatedly
- Feed it milk or bird meat, both purchasable from Renee or the nearby grocer in Hernand city
- Once trust is maxed, select Take In

How to summon the Abyss Heuklang after taming it
Once claimed, open your Inventory and press R2 (PlayStation) or RT (Xbox) to navigate to the Pets tab. Select the Abyss Heuklang and press X (PlayStation) or A (Xbox) to Summon it as your active companion.
From there it functions like any other pet in Crimson Desert: it follows you across the map, automatically picks up items, and can be equipped with accessories and gear.
What else came with the patch that unlocked it?
The update that made the Abyss Heuklang claimable also added other content, including the Baltheon Armor set. The Heuklang was previously an interactive but non-claimable creature, and Pearl Abyss specifically updated it to become a companion for all players.
