Dual wielding in Cyberpunk 2077 is a perk unlock, not an inventory trick. Update 2.5 lets V pair Power Pistols and Power Revolvers, but you need Double Trouble in the Cool tree first. The trade-off matters: each gun takes a 37.5% damage penalty, and the optional burst attack replaces quick melee. Getting the second handgun equipped is straightforward. Making the setup work means understanding its aiming bonuses, stamina perks, and the ammo-refunding Heywood Hurricane attack.
How do you unlock dual wielding?
You need Cool 9 and a Perk Point invested in Double Trouble rank 1. Dual wielding was introduced in Update 2.5, so install that update before looking for the perk.
Unlock Double Trouble and equip your handguns

Find Double Trouble in Cool
Follow this sequence to unlock the perk and fill both handgun slots:
- Open the Character menu and select the Cool attribute tree.
- Raise Cool to 9.
- Spend a Perk Point on Double Trouble rank 1.
- Open Inventory and select your equipped weapon.
- Choose a Power Pistol or Power Revolver for the primary weapon.
- Select the newly available secondary weapon slot on the left and equip another compatible handgun.
The two handguns do not need to be identical. Double Trouble supports different Power Pistols and Power Revolvers, so you can mix compatible models instead of finding a matching pair.
Which weapons can you dual wield?
Double Trouble only supports handguns in the Power category. Check both the weapon type and category when choosing your pair.
| Weapon category | Compatible with Double Trouble? |
|---|---|
| Power Pistols | Yes |
| Power Revolvers | Yes |
| Smart Pistols | No |
| Tech Pistols | No |
| SMGs | No |
| Shotguns | No |

Equip your second Power handgun
If you are returning for Double Trouble, the Update 2.5 feature breakdown covers the other additions included in the patch.
What changes when you fire two guns?
Each handgun receives a damage penalty
Double Trouble rank 1 reduces each dual-wielded weapon's damage by 37.5%. That penalty is part of the basic unlock, so equipping a second handgun comes with a cost on both weapons.
Aiming gives you more control over the pair. Double Trouble provides 15% less recoil and 15% less bullet spread while aiming, alongside simultaneous fire with both weapons. Those aiming benefits make rank 1 more than permission to fill the secondary slot.
Hip-fire and aiming have different perk benefits
Two Right Hands improves both firing styles, but in different ways. Hip-firing with two guns receives a 25% stamina-cost reduction. Aiming instead receives 20% less recoil and 20% less bullet spread from the perk.
That makes Two Right Hands a practical early supporting pick: it helps stamina use while hip-firing and control while aiming. For a setup centered on these mechanics, use the Double Trouble dual-wield build guide.
Which supporting perks should you choose?
Double Trouble has four supporting perks. Two Right Hands directly improves ordinary dual-wield fire, while Triple Tequila and Splash of Love give Heywood Hurricane a stronger payoff. Keep 'Em Comin' adds stamina recovery after enemy neutralizations.
| Supporting perk | Effect | Best reason to choose it |
|---|---|---|
| Two Right Hands | Hip-fire costs 25% less stamina. Aiming has 20% less recoil and 20% less bullet spread. | Improve control and reduce hip-fire stamina costs. |
| Triple Tequila | Neutralizing an enemy while dual wielding grants +10% Mitigation Chance for 15 seconds, stacking up to 3 times. Heywood Hurricane consumes the stacks for +15% damage per stack. | Build defensive benefits before spending stacks on a burst. |
| Keep 'Em Comin' | Neutralizing an enemy while dual wielding restores +40 Stamina, plus +20 additional Stamina per Triple Tequila stack. | Recover stamina during fights with repeated neutralizations. |
| Splash of Love | Heywood Hurricane gains +50% fire rate and, at maximum Triple Tequila stacks, +1 second of duration. | Improve the burst attack, especially with full stacks. |
Prioritize the part of dual wielding you actually use
If you mostly want to shoot two handguns normally, Two Right Hands offers benefits without requiring a Heywood Hurricane setup. Keep 'Em Comin' then supports that firing pattern by restoring stamina when you neutralize enemies.
If Heywood Hurricane is the reason you are investing in Double Trouble, Triple Tequila and Splash of Love belong together. Triple Tequila supplies a damage bonus when its stacks are consumed, and Splash of Love adds fire rate plus extra duration at maximum stacks.
Keep 'Em Comin' also rewards having Triple Tequila stacks through its additional stamina restoration. That gives the stacks a purpose before you spend them on Heywood Hurricane.
How do you use Heywood Hurricane?
Unlock the burst with Double Trouble rank 2
Spend another Perk Point on Double Trouble rank 2 to unlock Heywood Hurricane. Press Q on keyboard to activate it. The attack automatically fires both equipped handguns for 1 second and has +50% bullet spread.
Shots that successfully hit automatically replenish the ammunition spent on those hits. Accurate fire therefore matters during Heywood Hurricane, especially with its increased spread.
Build Triple Tequila stacks before activating it
With Triple Tequila and Splash of Love unlocked, the burst has a clear setup:
- Neutralize enemies using ordinary dual-wield fire to earn Triple Tequila stacks.
- Build up to the maximum of 3 stacks to qualify for Splash of Love's extra duration.
- Activate Heywood Hurricane to consume the stacks, gaining +15% damage per stack.
- Return to ordinary dual-wield fire to start earning stacks again.
Triple Tequila stacks last 15 seconds, so your setup has a time limit. Heywood Hurricane consumes them when activated, and you cannot earn new stacks during the attack.
These requirements and perk values apply to Update 2.5. Later balance updates may change the numbers, so check the Double Trouble and supporting-perk descriptions when adjusting an existing character.
