Season 11 Reorientation dropped fishing into Delta Force on September 8, 2026, and it is not the throwaway minigame skeptics expected. Team Jade built the system with the same customization logic as weapon loadouts: you configure your rod, line, reel, and bait before deployment, then manage a tension meter mid-catch that can snap your line if you rush it. There are 27 species to collect across three Operations maps, a Fishing Level cap of 50, and four Certification gates that block your progress until you catch specific fish for NPC Joe Reed. This guide covers everything, from the unlock requirement to the rarest collectible species.

How do you unlock fishing in Delta Force?

The gate is Operations Level 17. Once you hit that threshold, load into Layali Grove – Easy, find Joe Reed, and complete his introductory fishing mission. After extracting, check your in-game mail to claim the starter bundle: a Beginner Float Fishing Rod, starter bait, and a Fishing Exclusive Expansion Crate that adds dedicated storage without eating a regular Stash slot.

The rod lives inside the EDC Tool Kit, which also requires Operations Level 17 and a Portable Tool to operate. Configure your rod loadout before deployment. You cannot swap gear mid-match.

Fishing is only available on Easy difficulty. Higher-difficulty variants of Layali Grove, Zero Dam, and AZ3 do not support the fishing system at all.

How does fishing work in Delta Force?

Two methods cover all 27 species:

The tension meter uses three color states during Lure Fishing:

  • White: Low tension, safe to keep reeling
  • Yellow: Medium tension, ease off slightly
  • Red: High tension, stop reeling immediately or lose the fish

Float Fishing is faster per catch and better for early leveling. Lure Fishing unlocks access to most Rare and all Collectible species, so you will need to transition to it as you progress through Certifications.

All fishing locations in Delta Force

Fishing spans three Operations maps with eight named spots total. Layali Grove carries the most variety, which makes sense given its Season 11 expansion added new waterways and the Serenity Bay zone specifically.

Layali Grove fishing locations

Layali Grove is the largest fishing map in Delta Force, with five distinct spots:

All 27 fish species: common, rare, and collectible

The Fishing Gallery tracks all 27 species permanently. Catching a fish updates your Gallery record immediately, even if extraction fails. Individual catches also come in five item rarity tiers: Common (white), Rare (blue), Epic (purple), Legendary (gold), and Ultimate (red). Species category and item rarity are separate systems.

Collectible fish

These are the hardest species to obtain. Six of the seven require Lure Fishing. The Sapphire Snakehead is the only Collectible that uses Float Fishing.

tip
Gallery records for length, weight, and rarity are saved permanently regardless of whether you extract successfully. You do not need to keep every fish to preserve your collection progress.

Fishing gear: rods, reels, lines, bait, and lures

Every component of your fishing loadout affects a different part of the catch process. Rods determine which method and species are available. Lines handle tension tolerance. Reels control retrieval speed during Lure Fishing. Bait and lures influence which species bite and at what rarity.

Bait and lures

Float Fishing uses four consumable bait options. Lure Fishing has 10 lure options ranging from spoons to soft baits to vibration lures. Higher-tier options improve the chance of rarer catches, but species compatibility still determines what bites.

Float Fishing bait: Basic Grain Dough Bait, Enhanced Attractant Dough Bait, Refined Competition Dough Bait, Secret Bloodworm Bait

Lure Fishing lures: Standard Spoon, High-Contrast Stimulus Spoon, Fluorescent Vibrating Spoon, Precision Hunting Lure, Deepwater Detection Lure, High-Frequency Tail-Swing Soft Bait, Territorial Stimulus Lure, Deep-Diving Giant Vibration Lure, Steel-Ball Acoustic Lure, Gold-Plated Competition Lure

How do Fishing Levels and Certifications work?

Fishing progression is completely separate from Operations and Warfare XP. The cap is Fishing Level 50, but progress hard-stops at Levels 10, 20, 30, and 40 until you pass Joe Reed's Certification assessment for that tier.

To pass each assessment, return to Layali Grove – Easy, find Joe Reed again, accept the active certification, catch or bring the required fish, and submit them through his dialogue.

How to level up fishing fast

Float Fishing is the fastest leveling method in the early tiers because each catch takes less time. Consistent catches at lower rarities outpace chasing rare fish for the EXP bonus until your gear can reliably handle the tension demands of high-tier Lure targets.

  • Bring enough bait to avoid interrupting a session mid-run
  • Target common species first rather than hunting rare fish immediately
  • Upgrade your line before pushing into larger Lure Fishing targets
  • Return to Joe Reed as soon as your level stops increasing
warning
Your Fishing Level will not advance past the gate caps until you complete the corresponding Joe Reed assessment. Catching fish beyond the cap still grants EXP, but the counter freezes until the certification clears.

Storage and extraction rules

Your Fishing Rod is protected inside the EDC Tool Kit and survives a failed extraction. Any fish you are carrying in your backpack or chest rig does not. Gallery records and species unlocks are permanent regardless of whether you extract.

The Fishing Exclusive Expansion Crate you receive from Joe Reed's starter mail provides dedicated Stash storage for extracted fish and gear without using a regular expansion slot.

Fishing rewards and Fishing Coins

Extracting and selling fish earns Fishing Coins, the currency for the Fishing Store. Completing Joe Reed's intro mission gives the starter bundle. Beyond that, rewards come from leveling, Certifications, rare catches, and fishing-specific objectives.

The four Fishing Journey Achievement tiers unlock at Advanced, Veteran, Master, and Grandmaster Certification. Catching designated rare fish awards Fishing Match Ratings in Operations results. Size-specific catches unlock Fish Medals including Large, Small, Expert, and leaderboard variants.

There is currently no dedicated cosmetic for reaching Level 50 or completing the full 27-species Gallery. Limited-time events can add prizes outside the permanent reward track. The Crimson Carp King event previously awarded the Crimson Carp King limited red collectible and 10 Armament Vouchers, though these only appear while the event is active.

More Delta Force guides

Fishing is one piece of a large Season 11 update. If you want to go deeper on other systems, the Delta Force guides collection covers everything from operator builds to boss fights. For Layali Grove specifically, the updated map includes new zones like Serenity Bay, North Slope Caves, and Haavk Underground Dock alongside the reworked waterways where most of the fishing spots sit.

For players working through other Season 11 content alongside fishing, the Vlinder drone deployment and healing tactics guide covers support operator play in depth. If you are pushing harder Operations content between fishing sessions, the Delta Force Hudson boss fight guide walks through the Bits drone tactics and 30-second countdown survival in Space City.
