Devikins is not your average RPG. It is a mix of turn-based combat and strategy, making it stand out in the mobile gaming scene. If you love RPGs with deep mechanics, PvE quests, and intense PvP battles, this one might just hook you in. What makes Devikins different is that your characters are NFTs, meaning you actually own them. You can trade, sell, or collect them, adding a layer of value beyond just gameplay. Plus, as you grind through battles and quests, you earn DVK tokens, which can be traded for real-world rewards.

The game keeps things fresh with regular updates, new challenges, and an active community. If you're into RPGs and curious about the world of Web3 gaming, Devikins is worth checking out. It is not just about playing. It is about owning, strategizing, and making your mark in a constantly evolving universe.

Gameplay

Devikins starts with a tutorial that walks you through the game’s core mechanics, familiarizing you with turn-based combat, character management, and progression systems. After this, you’ll customize your avatar, adjusting features like the head shape, mouth, eyes, horns, face, and color, giving each player a unique identity in the game.

The main game menu is packed with features: quests, passive rewards from void adventures, a gacha system (Wicked Well) for rare items, a shop, rituals for stat boosts, weapon forging, skill customization, a nursery for training Devikids, and an inventory. It’s a lot to take in at first, but the tutorial does a decent job of easing you into it.

Before diving into combat, you'll need to hatch Devikids from embryos and raise them into Devikins. This is where the game introduces a unique parenting simulation element—you’ll train, feed, and monitor their mood to ensure proper growth. Training comes with both positive and negative effects, so managing your Devikid’s progress requires some strategy. Initially, this adds depth, but as you gather more resources, it becomes less challenging and more of a routine grind. Once matured, your Devikins are ready for battle.

Story Mode (PvE) has you clearing stages, but positioning doesn’t matter here, just set up your team, start the battle, and either manually attack or enable auto-play. Battles can be fast-forwarded, making it feel more like an idle game than a traditional strategy RPG. Victory rewards include resources for leveling up your Devikins, weapons, skills, and Mynthe Seeds, which can later be exchanged for DVK tokens. While PvP battles are currently asynchronous, meaning you select an opponent’s team and fight them without real-time interaction. Winning increases your ranking, helping you climb the leaderboard. PvP matchmaking in Devikins still feels unbalanced, often pairing players against overpowered opponents, leaving little to no chance of victory.

Void Adventures let your adult Devikins earn passive rewards, functioning as a set-it-and-forget-it system with timers. This feature feels similar to nursery training but offers fewer customization choices. Breeding is another key mechanic, but only NFT Devikins can breed, making it essentially locked behind a paywall. If you want to truly progress, you’ll need to invest in NFT characters

One of the biggest drawbacks of Devikins is its noticeable shift toward heavy monetization. Essential materials for upgrading weapons and characters are difficult to obtain unless players are willing to spend real money. While free-to-play players can manage early progression through grinding, truly competing in PvP and climbing the leaderboards feels nearly impossible without investing in in-game purchases. 

Review

Devikins stands out with its engaging art style and quirky eldritch aesthetic, making the game world feel both unique and visually appealing. The character designs are charming yet eerie, giving the game a distinct identity that sets it apart from other RPGs. The Devikid training system adds an interesting layer of strategy early on, and the turn-based combat in both PvE and PvP provides a decent challenge. However, battles lean heavily into an idle experience.

Despite its strengths, progression feels frustratingly slow. Leveling up Devikins takes far too long, requiring a constant grind that can test a player’s patience. The monetization model only adds to the issue while free-to-play players can progress, breeding, upgrading weapons, and earning DVK tokens are far easier for those willing to spend money. The pay-to-win aspects become particularly noticeable in PvP, where paying players gain a clear advantage on the leaderboards. While Devikins offers a fun and unique RPG experience, the grind-heavy mechanics and reliance on microtransactions might make it less appealing for those looking for a more balanced free-to-play experience.
