Disney Dreamlight Valley Guide How to Find and Feed Hedgehogs

Hedgehogs are the standout critters of Disney Dreamlight Valley's Honeyglow Woods Adventure Pack, and unlike most critters in the base game, they skip the frustrating chase mechanics entirely. Four unique variants live across the four sub-biomes of Honeyglow Woods, each with their own schedule and home turf. Feed each one three times with the right food and you'll unlock them as a permanent companion. Here's everything you need to get it done.

Where do Hedgehogs spawn in Honeyglow Woods?

Honeyglow Woods is divided into four distinct sub-biomes, and each Hedgehog variant sticks to its own territory. You won't find them wandering outside their assigned area, so knowing exactly where to look saves a lot of aimless running around.

  • Classic Hedgehog lives in Drowsybloom Acre
  • Green Hedgehog lives in Gloommeadow
  • Yellow Hedgehog lives in Braveheart Grove
  • Orange Hedgehog lives in Nectar Apiary

How do you approach Hedgehogs without scaring them?

This is where Hedgehogs differ from a lot of the base game's critters. There's no red light-green light minigame, no sneaking, no chasing. Walk up to a Hedgehog and it might act a little shy at first, but standing still near it for a few seconds causes it to relax. Once it settles, you can feed it directly.

Patience is the only tool you need here. After testing this across all four variants, the wait time before feeding is consistently short, usually just a few seconds of standing nearby.

What is the Hedgehog's favorite food?

Hedgehogs have two favorite foods: Pufflebud Pods and Golden Honey. Feeding either of these counts as a favorite food interaction and gives you the best possible rewards per feed.

Pufflebud Pods are the more straightforward option. You can buy them directly from the Seed Stall located in Drowsybloom Acre, plant them, and harvest them on your own schedule.

Golden Honey takes more setup. You produce it through beekeeping by placing flowers around a Busy Bees' House, which pollinates the hive and generates Golden Honey over time. It's slower to acquire than Pufflebud Pods, but both count equally as favorite foods.

If you're low on both, Hedgehogs also accept any fruit as a liked food. Fruit won't count as the official favorite, so the rewards are slightly different, but it still progresses your bond.

What is the Hedgehog companion bonus?

Once you've unlocked a Hedgehog as a companion and have it following you around, it provides the foraging collection bonus. While it's at your side, it occasionally finds extra forageable items like Apples, Blueberries, and Bananas whenever you're collecting those resources. It's a solid passive benefit if you spend time foraging regularly.

Unlocking Hedgehogs as companions also opens up unique poses for Photomode, which is a nice bonus for players who enjoy snapping in-game pictures.

What are the Hedgehog schedules in Honeyglow Woods?

This is where things get tricky. The four variants don't all appear at the same time, and the Orange Hedgehog in particular has a limited window that catches a lot of players off guard.

Loading table...

The Classic Hedgehog is the easiest to work with since it's available every day at all hours. The Green Hedgehog covers the midnight-to-noon window daily, while the Yellow Hedgehog takes the afternoon and evening shift every day. The Orange Hedgehog only appears on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays, and only in the 12PM to 12AM window, making it the rarest of the four.

Honeyglow Woods has a lot going on beyond just Hedgehogs. If you're working through the full companion roster, check out our Disney Dreamlight Valley guides collection for walkthroughs on other critters and quests across the valley.
