Disney Dreamlight Valley Guide: How to Unlock Pocahontas

Pocahontas arrived in Disney Dreamlight Valley with the Whispers of the Wind update, and she's the last Disney princess the game was missing. The catch: she doesn't unlock through a Realm like most villagers. Her questline sends you out to sea with Moana, across a Mystery Island, and through a fishing puzzle before she finally shows up. The full process takes a bit of time, but nothing here is especially hard once you know what to do.

What do you need before starting the Pocahontas quest?

Before the Whispers in the Wind quest even appears, three prerequisites must be met. According to Destructoid's coverage of the update, these are non-negotiable gates:

  • Unlock Moana. She's your partner for the entire quest. Moana becomes available after you open her Realm for 3,000 Dreamlight and finish both the After the Storm and How Far You'll Go missions with her.
  • Unlock the Forest of Valor biome. This costs 3,000 Dreamlight.
  • Unlock the Dazzle Beach biome. This one is cheaper at 1,000 Dreamlight.

Once all three boxes are checked, the quest can begin.

How to start the Whispers in the Wind quest

Check your mailbox for a letter from Moana titled "I've found something strange..." This letter points you toward Dazzle Beach to hunt for the Glowing Algae she mentions. Picking it up triggers the Whispers in the Wind quest automatically and sends you back to Moana.

Speak with Moana, then follow her to her house. Inside, interact with the boating equipment (the barrels and two oars near her front door) to be transported to the Mystery Island.

How to complete the Mystery Island section

As soon as you land, speak to Moana again. She'll direct you up the slope ahead, where you'll find the Swirling Flower Petal Winds, a cluster of pink and purple petals. Talk to the wind to receive a memory orb, which reveals the locations of two buried dig spots on the island.

Both dig spots are easy to find:

  • One sits directly behind the petal wind, between three trees.
  • The other is on the beach to the right of where your boat arrived.

Dig both spots to collect two Jewelry Pieces, then bring them to Moana. This triggers a puzzle to appear.

How do you solve the Mystery Island puzzle?

The puzzle works like a jigsaw: drag pieces from the left side of the screen and rotate them to fit the correct slots. As noted across multiple sources covering the update, the puzzle is straightforward. A practical tip from community testing: fill in the border pieces first, then work inward. Completing the puzzle reveals a whirlpool somewhere offshore.

How to find the planks and fish out the final Jewelry Piece

Head back to the docks and interact with the boat. You'll be given directional choices. Here's the order that matters:

  1. Select East to sail to the whirlpool. You can't fish yet because there's no platform.
  2. Select North to reach a shipwreck area. Pick up all three floating planks from the water.
  3. Return to the whirlpool by selecting East again. Now interact with the edge of the canoe to place the planks as a platform.
  4. Fish from the glowing ripple in the centre of the whirlpool using your Royal Fishing Rod. Complete the fishing minigame to reel in the third and final Jewelry Piece.

How to repair the necklace and meet Pocahontas

Return to the Mystery Island docks. There's a Crafting Station next to the dock area. Open it, navigate to the Requests tab, and craft the Repaired Necklace using the three Jewelry Pieces you collected.

Take the necklace to Moana at the Swirling Flower Petal Winds. When prompted, choose any of the three dialogue options to present the necklace to the wind. All three options lead to the same outcome, so there's no reason to agonize over it. A cutscene plays showing Pocahontas emerging from the winds. After a short conversation about the forgetting, you'll receive the foundation plans for Pocahontas's Yehakin.

How to build Pocahontas's house and complete the quest

Interact with the boating equipment to return to the main valley. Open Furniture mode and place the Yehakin foundation anywhere you like. Then interact with the Scrooge McDuck sign in front of it to complete the build. Gameloft made this one free, which is a welcome change from the usual Star Coin costs.

Once the Yehakin is built, the "Welcome Pocahontas" screen triggers and she joins your villager roster. Speak with her one final time, agree to help plan a Celestial Celebration, and the Whispers in the Wind quest officially closes.

The level 10 quest, A Raccoon's Return, is when Meeko finally shows up as an unlockable companion, so it's worth pushing your friendship level all the way.
