Disney Dreamlight Valley packs a lot of secrets into the Honeyglow Woods region, and the nine hidden green chests scattered across its biomes are among the best finds. Each one holds a reward you can't get anywhere else, from cosmetic clothing pieces to a glider, so skipping them means permanently missing out on exclusive items. The catch is that several chests require specific Royal Tool upgrades and story progress before you can actually open them.
Before going chest hunting, it's worth knowing that Honeyglow Woods splits across multiple biomes and four sections of the Everoak Tree. You'll need access to all of them plus a couple of key upgrades to clean out every chest. The safest approach is to push through the main storyline first, then sweep the area once you have everything unlocked.
What tools do you need to open the green chests?
Most of the outdoor chests are embedded in rocky walls and need Driftwood to free them. One piece per chest is all it takes. The chests inside the Everoak Tree are a different story. Several are blocked by Tree Resin log spots, which require the Amber Brushwoods Pickaxe Upgrade to break through. You unlock this upgrade during the Chapter 6: A Place for Eeyore quest. One chest in the fourth Everoak Tree section is only blocked by Honey Swirls, which you can clear with magic, making it the most accessible of the tree chests.
A second tree chest, found in the second Everoak section, is blocked by obstacles that need the Prickle-Popper Potion applied to your Royal Shovel. You craft this during the Chapter 8: The Little Big Forest quest. Plan your chest run around these two quest milestones and you'll avoid backtracking.

Drowsybloom Acre (chests 1 and 3)
The first chest sits in the upper right corner of Drowsybloom Acre, tucked into the wall directly behind where your house starts in this region. Open it with Driftwood to claim the Honeyglow Glider. The third chest is in the upper left corner of the same biome, close to the bridge leading up toward Braveheart Grove. One piece of Driftwood frees it, and it contains the Blooming Knitted Cardigan.
If you're still early in the expansion and haven't started farming yet, the Hunny Seed Stall unlock guide covers how to get set up in Drowsybloom Acre while you're in the area.

Gloommeadow (chest 4)
Head to the very north end of Gloommeadow and look for the ramp leading up to Braveheart Grove. The fourth chest is in the wall right beside that ramp. Use Driftwood to open it and you'll walk away with the Sunny Picnic Dress.
Braveheart Grove (chest 6)
The sixth chest is in the upper left corner of Braveheart Grove, embedded in the rocky wall. Driftwood is all you need here, and the reward is the Striped Busy Bees' Socks.
Nectar Apiary (chest 8)
This one is genuinely easy to miss. Chest 8 is almost completely buried in the rock wall near the east end of Nectar Apiary. If you're struggling to spot it, remove any trees you've placed near the marked wall area to clear your line of sight. Driftwood opens it, and it holds the Cozy Acorn Beret.
Everoak Tree sections (chests 2, 5, 7, and 9)
Four chests are spread across the four sections of the Everoak Tree, each accessed from a different biome during specific quests.
Chest 2 is in the first Everoak Tree section, entered from Drowsybloom Acre during the Interlude: The Misplaced Honey quest. It's in a small alcove on your right as you enter, but Tree Resin logs block the way until you have the Amber Brushwoods Pickaxe Upgrade from Chapter 6. The reward is a Yellow Raincoat.
Chest 5 is in the second Everoak Tree section, accessed from Gloommeadow during the Interlude 2: The Gloomy Hollow quest. It's behind Tree Resin logs on the right side of Eeyore's puzzle. You need the Prickle-Popper Potion on your Royal Shovel, unlocked in Chapter 8, to clear the path. The reward is the Summer Blossom Braids hairstyle.
Chest 7 is in the third Everoak Tree section, entered from Braveheart Grove during the Interlude 3: The Shadowy Surprise quest. It's tucked in a corner behind the central puzzle. The Amber Brushwoods Pickaxe Upgrade handles the Tree Resin logs here, and the reward is the Honeybee Gold Earrings.
Chest 9 is in the fourth and final Everoak Tree section, accessed from Nectar Apiary during the Interlude 4: Curiosity Satisfied quest. Find it on the left side of the stairs leading to the cooking station where you prepare the Hedgehog Treat. Only Honey Swirls block it, cleared with magic, making this the easiest Everoak chest. The reward is the Honeybee Gold Necklace.

What's the most efficient order to collect all chests?
The smartest route is to collect the five outdoor chests (1, 3, 4, 6, and 8) as you naturally unlock each biome, since they only need Driftwood. Chest 9 in the fourth Everoak section is also straightforward once you reach it. Hold off on chests 2 and 7 until after Chapter 6 gives you the Amber Brushwoods Pickaxe Upgrade, and don't attempt chest 5 until Chapter 8 hands you the Prickle-Popper Potion.
Trying to rush all nine before completing the story means multiple return trips. One clean sweep after Chapter 8 clears everything in a single run.
