FC 27 Guide: Best Players to Use for Goal Guardian Evolution
Free GK upgrade, two PlayStyle paths, and the best eligible keepers to run through FC 27's Goal Guardian Evolution.
Starting a new Ultimate Team in EA Sports FC 27 with a thin wallet and a handful of bronze packs is a familiar feeling. The good news is that the opening weeks reward smart squad building far more than raw spending. Pace, chemistry, and useful PlayStyles matter more than overall rating, and there are affordable players at every position who can hold their own deep into Division Rivals.
Overall rating tells you almost nothing about how a player performs on the pitch. The attributes that actually matter early on are pace (especially for wingers and fullbacks), reliable finishing for your striker, at least one midfielder who can cover space defensively, and a goalkeeper with strong reflexes and positioning. Chemistry links that make future upgrades easier are also worth planning around from the start, and players with useful Roles and PlayStyles will outperform higher-rated cards that lack them.
One thing most players get wrong early on: spending 20,000 coins on a single winger while running 1,000-coin defenders. Defensive mistakes in Rivals cost you far more than an average winger gains you.
The 4-2-1-3 is the safest starting formation for most players. Two CDMs protect your center-backs when you push forward, the CAM supports the front three, and three attackers give you enough width to stretch defenses. Keep one CDM in a deeper position during attacking phases so you are not caught exposed on the counter.
The 4-3-3 is a solid alternative if you want more midfield presence. Three central midfielders give you better control of the pitch, and fast wingers can stay wide to create space for your striker. Use your CDM to shield the back four and let the other two midfielders rotate forward.
The squads below are organized by coin budget. Prices fluctuate between console and PC markets, so always check live Transfer Market prices before buying.
At this budget, focus entirely on pace, easy chemistry, and players cheap enough to replace without regret.
Estimated cost: around 12,500 coins on console and PC. When upgrading, replace the slowest CB first, then move to the striker if finishing feels inconsistent.
The 50K bracket is where most casual players will land, and it offers the best balance of quality and flexibility. Build around one strong striker, one reliable midfielder, and one solid center-back, then fill the remaining spots with affordable supporting options.
Estimated cost: around 48,500 coins on console, 50,500 coins on PC. Omar Marmoush works as a striker or left-sided attacker because of his pace and four-star skill moves. Hannah Hampton is reliable for Premier League and WSL chemistry-based squads, but Nick Pope is a cheaper alternative if you want to redirect budget toward attack.
A 100K budget lets you combine pace with composure, stamina, and genuinely useful PlayStyles across multiple positions rather than just one or two standout cards.
Estimated cost: around 111,000 coins on console, 105,000 coins on PC. If you already have an untradeable striker from objectives or packs, redirect those saved coins into midfield and defense instead of duplicating the position.
At 250K you can build a squad with three genuinely premium players and a strong supporting cast around them.
Estimated cost: 290,000 to 300,000 coins on both PC and console. Spend your premium budget on the three positions where the quality gap is most noticeable, then fill the rest with cheaper options that maintain chemistry.
| Budget | Best suited for | Main priorities |
|---|---|---|
| Under 10K | Brand new clubs starting from zero | Pace, chemistry, low-risk purchases |
| Under 50K | Most casual and competitive starters | Strong striker, midfielder, and CB |
| Under 100K | Players ready for serious Rivals matches | PlayStyles, stamina, defensive quality |
| Under 250K | Early competitive squads | Three premium players, balanced support |
Pace is the first priority. Antonee Robinson and Marco Palestra are two of the most consistent affordable options. Jockey and Intercept PlayStyles add real defensive value, while Quick Step and Rapid help against fast attackers on the counter. Dayann Methalie is worth monitoring specifically because limited PlayStyles at launch give him strong Evolution potential later.
Wesley Fofana and Jorrel Hato give you pace and defensive presence as a pair. Height matters more than many players realize at CB. Taller defenders cover more space, win headers from corners, and handle physical strikers better. Jayden Oosterwolde, Mario Gila Fuentes, and Dávid Hancko are other affordable options worth checking before the market settles.
Morten Hjulmand is the standout cheap CDM. Height helps here too, with players around 6'1" covering passing lanes more effectively. Target Incisive Pass, Pinged Pass, Intercept, and Anticipate as PlayStyles. CDMs do not need elite pace since they operate deep, but staying above 70 pace is preferable.
Pace is everything on the wings early in the cycle. Iñaki Williams, Giuliano Simeone, Pedro Neto, and Racheal Kundananji are among the best affordable options. Rapid, Technical, and Finesse Shot PlayStyles make a big difference in how often your winger beats a defender and actually scores. Skill Move rating also matters because agile wingers create far more space in tight defensive situations.
Finishing takes priority over extreme pace at striker. Keep pace above roughly 75 while targeting strong shooting stats and PlayStyles like Finesse Shot and Low Driven Shot. Ademola Lookman is the standout budget option combining pace, dribbling, and attacking PlayStyles. Omar Marmoush doubles as a striker or wide attacker, which adds squad flexibility. Benjamin Šeško is worth considering if you want a more physical presence in the box.
Only consider it if the player fills a position you genuinely cannot cover cheaply, has the pace and PlayStyles your tactics need, improves chemistry for several other players in your squad, and is someone you expect to keep for an extended period. Buying a famous name just because it is available is one of the fastest ways to drain your early coin balance.
Do not try to replace the entire squad at once. Identify the positions where you are conceding or missing chances most consistently, then upgrade those first. If you are letting in too many goals, prioritize your center-backs and CDM. If you are creating chances but not converting, upgrade the striker.
Treat your starter squad as a foundation rather than a finished product. The FC 27 player database and Transfer Market will keep evolving as new content drops, and players who look expensive at launch often drop significantly in price within the first few weeks.
