EA Sports FC 27 is targeting the two biggest time sinks in FUT: the chemistry-juggling nightmare of Squad Building Challenges and the rigid, take-it-or-leave-it Evolution system. The changes confirmed so far replace both with more flexible, player-driven alternatives. The FUT Gallery adds a collector's layer on top of everything, and on-pitch defending is getting a meaningful manual-vs-AI rebalance. Here's a breakdown of every change and what it actually means for how you'll build and play.
How do the new SBCs work in EA FC 27?
The old SBC format asked you to hit specific chemistry targets, position requirements, and overall rating thresholds simultaneously. That meant spending more time staring at menus than actually playing. EA is replacing it with a points-based progression system where every card in your club carries a point value determined by its rating and rarity.
To complete an SBC, you select cards that add up to the required point total. No more hunting for the exact 83-rated midfielder who fits a specific league. A high-rarity card worth 500 points covers the same ground as several lower-value ones. The one-click completion option lets you hit that threshold instantly once you have enough total value in your club.
The other significant change: you can submit the same card multiple times within a single SBC. That removes the friction of needing a wide spread of different items just to satisfy a single challenge.

For players who genuinely enjoyed the puzzle aspect of the old format, EA is keeping it. Puzzle SBCs remain in the game as an opt-in mode, so nothing is being taken away from players who want that experience.

What's changing with Evolutions in EA FC 27?
Evolutions in FC 26 gave you one upgrade path per card with no room to deviate. FC 27 introduces branching upgrade paths within a single Evolution. Picture a three-stage Evolution where, after completing each stage, you choose between different attribute boosts or stat packages. Two players running the same Evolution on the same base card can end up with completely different final versions depending on their choices.
This matters most for players who build around specific playstyles. A pacey winger and a press-heavy midfielder might both benefit from the same Evolution template, but their ideal stat priorities are different. Branching paths let you tailor the outcome rather than accept a one-size-fits-all upgrade.
The other confirmed addition is an undo and reset option. If you complete a stage and immediately regret the attribute choice, you can reverse the last decision or reset the card entirely back to its base state. Previously, a wrong Evolution choice was permanent and costly.

EA is also adding transitional EVOs, which include a preview function showing you what future development stages will look like before you commit. That removes the guesswork from long-term Evolution planning.
What is the FUT Gallery?
The FUT Gallery is a new collector's room where completed professional packs are preserved as permanent items rather than consumed. Each pack you complete gets rated and added to your gallery, and your overall gallery level increases as you add more entries.
Higher gallery levels unlock cosmetics, tokens, and rewards. It's a progression system that runs parallel to your squad-building activity, giving you something to show for the packs you've opened across a season rather than watching them disappear into your club.
EA is also launching a new card series called the Hall of FUT, which focuses on community-favourite players from previous years. Special cards in this series can drop as holographic versions or be evolved. For more detail on exactly which players are featured and how to unlock them, the EA FC 27 Hall of FUT guide covers the full roster.

How is Season Pass progression changing?
Season Points (SP) in FC 27 are no longer locked to specific weekly tasks. You can earn SP through gallery sets, SBC completions, or simply playing matches. The progression system is designed to reward whatever activity you're already doing in FUT rather than forcing you toward specific grind loops.
For solo players, AI variants are now available for live events, so you don't need to go online to participate in time-limited content.
What's different about defending in FC 27?
On the pitch, EA is pulling back AI assistance for interceptions and blocks. The system previously did a lot of the defensive work automatically, which made manual defending feel redundant. In FC 27, manual defending gets expanded range and faster reaction speed, making it the more rewarding option for players who invest time in it.
Other on-pitch adjustments include a reworked corner system split into two phases (targeting the delivery zone first, then timing the run), new curved and overlapping run types in the defensive line, improved dribbling control during contact, and PlayStyle balance tweaks to make underlying attributes matter more than they did in FC 26.
