EA Sports FC 27 brought back the Future Stars Academy Evolution as a four-stage chain that turns an eligible 80-rated attacker into an 85-rated threat. All four stages are live right now, which means you can see the full upgrade path before committing a single card. Here's everything you need to know to pick the right player, choose the right branches, and collect the objective rewards along the way.

What is the Future Stars Academy Evolution?

The Academy is a free four-stage Evolution chain in FC 27 Ultimate Team. You enrol one eligible item at Academy I, complete match tasks at each stage, and carry that same card through all four stages. EA's progression roadmap shows an 81 → 82 → 83 → 85 OVR route across the four stages. That said, your player's actual final attributes depend on their starting stats and which branch you pick at each stage, so always preview the gains on your specific item before committing.

What are the Academy I entry requirements?

Before you pick a player, every condition below must be met by the exact item you plan to use.

RequirementLimit
Overall ratingMaximum 80
PaceMaximum 86
PlayStylesMaximum 7
Eligible positionST or CAM (alternative position counts)
Date of birthAfter October 9, 2003
Entry feeFree

The alternative position rule matters. An LW, LM, or CM with ST or CAM listed as an alternative position qualifies without needing a position change.

Academy I: pace, shooting, or dribbling?

Academy I runs five levels. Levels 1 through 4 each require one qualifying match; Level 5 requires a win. Qualifying modes are Squad Battles on at least Semi-Pro difficulty, Rush, Rivals, Champions, or Live Events.

Levels 1 to 4 deliver shared upgrades across finishing, vision, long passing, reactions, heading accuracy, acceleration, shot power, crossing, curve, ball control, stamina, sprint speed, long shots, agility, dribbling, strength, positioning, volleys, short passing, balance, and composure. These are capped boosts, not flat additions.

At Level 5, choose one of three branches:

BranchKey attribute gains (capped)Star reward
PaceAcceleration/Sprint Speed +12 (cap 84), Positioning +10 (cap 83), Finishing/Agility +10 (cap 82)Weak Foot +2, cap 4★
ShootingFinishing +12 (cap 86), Shot Power +12 (cap 87), Long Shots/Volleys/Composure +10 (caps 83/84/83)Weak Foot +2, cap 4★
DribblingAgility/Ball Control/Dribbling +12 (cap 87), Balance/Composure +10 (cap 84)Skill Moves +2, cap 4★

For a central striker, Shooting is the obvious starting point given it pushes finishing toward 86. For a CAM built around control and tight spaces, Dribbling is the stronger call. Pace suits a runner who needs to stretch defences rather than create from deep.

Academy II: playmaker, powerhouse, or all-rounder?

Academy II requires an item rated exactly 81 OVR with the Academy rarity intact. It runs three levels, with Levels 1 and 2 needing one qualifying match each and Level 3 requiring a win.

BranchKey attribute gains (capped)Best for
PlaymakerVision +10 (cap 86), Crossing +12 (cap 82), FK Accuracy +15 (cap 80), Short Passing +8 (cap 86), Long Passing +12 (cap 82), Curve +12 (cap 84)Creators and distributors
PowerhouseReactions +1 (cap 83), Heading Accuracy +8 (cap 79), Jumping +20 (cap 80), Stamina +5 (cap 85), Strength +8 (cap 76), Aggression +20 (cap 74)Physical presence and stamina
All-RounderVision +4 (cap 84), Short Passing +4 (cap 84), Long Passing +6 (cap 79), Jumping +8 (cap 77), Stamina +3 (cap 84), Strength +5 (cap 75)Mixed passing and physical

Playmaker is the standout choice for a CAM who needs to find runners and switch play. Powerhouse is worth a look only if your player's physical attributes are genuinely holding them back. All-Rounder covers both categories but delivers smaller gains, making it useful when your player's passing and physical stats are already close to the caps.

Academy III: rapid, power shot, or technical?

Entry requires exactly 82 OVR and no more than 7 PlayStyles. The task here is simpler: win 2 matches in any qualifying mode. Every branch gives +1 OVR (capped at 83) plus a PlayStyle and attribute upgrades.

BranchPlayStyle addedKey attribute gains (capped)
PaceRapidAcceleration +3 (cap 87), Sprint Speed +3 (cap 87)
ShootingPower ShotFinishing +4 (cap 88), Shot Power +3 (cap 88), Long Shots +3 (cap 84), Volleys +5 (cap 82), Composure +3 (cap 85)
DribblingTechnicalAgility +4 (cap 89), Balance +2 (cap 85), Reactions +3 (cap 86), Ball Control +5 (cap 89), Dribbling +5 (cap 89)

Technical is the most broadly useful branch for attackers who rely on close control, particularly CAMs. Power Shot pushes finishing toward 88, which is hard to argue against for a pure striker. Rapid suits a player built entirely around exploiting pace behind the defence.

Academy IV: shooting or passing?

The final stage requires exactly 83 OVR, the Academy rarity, and no more than 7 PlayStyles. It takes a minimum of 5 matches including 2 wins.

Levels 1 and 2 deliver shared upgrades before the final branch choice at Level 3:

  • Level 1 (play 1 match): OVR +2 to 85, Long Shots +3, Penalties +8, Composure +3, Jumping +5, Strength +4
  • Level 2 (play 2 matches): Shot Power +3, Volleys +4, Crossing +6, Heading Accuracy +4, Stamina +3, Aggression +6
  • Level 3 (win 2 matches): Choose Shooting or Passing
BranchKey attribute gains (capped)PlayStyle reward
ShootingFinishing +1 (cap 84), Shot Power +3 (cap 86), Long Shots +2 (cap 82), Volleys +4 (cap 82), Composure +3 (cap 84)Low Driven Shot (total PlayStyle cap 4)
PassingVision +3 (cap 88), Short Passing +3 (cap 88), Long Passing +4 (cap 86), Reactions +4 (cap 86), Ball Control +2 (cap 84), Composure +4 (cap 85)None listed

Low Driven Shot is one of the most effective finishing PlayStyles in FC 27, so the Shooting branch is the default recommendation for strikers. The Passing branch's vision and short passing caps of 88 are genuinely elite for a CAM who has already built finishing through earlier stages. If Academy III already pushed Finishing to 88, the Shooting branch's +1 cap at 84 does nothing to that attribute, making Passing the smarter call.

Best players to use for the Future Stars Academy Evolution

Antonio Nusa (78 OVR, LW, CAM alternative)

Nusa is the most fun option on this list. His base card brings 85 Pace, 85 Dribbling, five-star skill moves, and PlayStyles including Inventive, Technical, Rapid, and Quick Step. The CAM alternative position makes him eligible. After testing this card through the Academy chain, the Shooting branch at Level 5 of Academy I is the right call: it fixes his 73 base Shooting while pushing his weak foot from 3 to 4 stars, and his five-star skill moves are retained regardless of which branch you choose. His existing Rapid PlayStyle means Academy III's Pace branch adds nothing new; Technical is the better pick there for the dribbling gains.

Eli Junior Kroupi (80 OVR, ST/CAM)

Kroupi arrives with 83 Pace, 83 Shooting, and PlayStyles including Finesse Shot, Power Shot, and Low Driven Shot already on the card. That's a serious base for a central striker. The Shooting branch at Academy I pushes his weak foot to 4 stars, which combined with his existing PlayStyle package makes him one of the most complete finishers available through this chain. The trade-off is that Dribbling at Academy I would give 4-star skill moves instead, but his 3-star weak foot stays unchanged. For a striker, the weak foot upgrade wins.

Konstantinos Karetsas (76 OVR, CAM)

Karetsas already has 4-star skill moves and a 4-star weak foot, so Academy I's star rewards are irrelevant to him. Choose the branch purely for attribute gains. His lower 76 base OVR means the shared upgrades across all five levels of Academy I deliver more raw improvement than they do for higher-rated starting items. He suits a role receiving between the lines and turning quickly, so Technical at Academy III and Passing at Academy IV build toward a creative CAM who can also contribute to goals.

Senny Mayulu (79 OVR, CM, CAM/ST alternatives)

Mayulu's 5-star weak foot is the main selling point. Choosing Dribbling at Academy I raises his skill moves to 4 stars while preserving that weak foot, giving you a two-footed, technically capable midfielder. His CM base with CAM and ST alternatives provides squad flexibility. The Playmaker branch at Academy II and Technical at Academy III build toward a link player who can distribute and carry the ball rather than just score.

Clara Serrajordi (79 OVR, CM, CAM/ST alternatives)

Serrajordi's base card has 83 Short Passing, 84 Long Passing, and 84 Ball Control, which are already strong foundations for a creative role. Her value depends heavily on whether Barcelona, Spain, or Liga F chemistry links fit your squad. The Pace branch at Academy I boosts her 75 base pace substantially, while Dribbling gives 4-star skill moves. Choose based on what your squad needs more.

What are the Academy objective rewards?

A separate objective group runs alongside the Evolution chain. Keep your Academy player in the starting XI to progress these simultaneously.

ObjectiveRequirementReward

Completing the full group rewards a pack of 5 Gold Players Rated 81+. All pack rewards are untradeable.

The 10-match reward is listed as an Evo Unlock. Check the in-game description before assuming it grants a second Academy enrolment slot.

Common mistakes to avoid

The mistake most players make is committing to a player without previewing later stages. All four stages are available now, so there's no reason to lock in a card without checking the full chain first. A player who looks ideal at Academy I might hit attribute caps at Academy III that make the branch choice irrelevant.

The second common error is ignoring alternative positions. Several strong candidates enter as CM or LW items, not as ST or CAM base positions. If the alternative position isn't there, the card doesn't qualify regardless of how good the base stats look.

Finally, don't overlook PlayStyle caps. Academy III's PlayStyle reward has a total cap of 3, and Academy IV's Shooting branch caps at 4. If your player is already at the limit, the PlayStyle reward disappears. The attribute gains still apply, but you're not getting the full value of that branch.

FAQ

Can an LW or CM enter Academy I? Yes, as long as the exact item has ST or CAM listed as an alternative position and meets every other requirement.

Does Academy I give 5-star skills or weak foot? No. The star rewards cap at 4 stars. Existing 5-star ratings are retained but the reward adds nothing to them.

Can you enrol multiple players? Academy I is not listed as repeatable. The Evo Unlock from the objectives group is a separate reward, not a confirmed second enrolment slot.

Is the whole chain free? All four stages are free to enter. You need an eligible starting item, which may have a market cost depending on the player.

Should you review all four stages before starting? Yes. All stages are available now, so compare the full chain before choosing your player and check each branch's actual capped gains on your specific item.
