Overview
FIFA 22, developed by EA Canada and EA Romania and published by Electronic Arts, launched on October 1, 2021 across PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. Built on the Powered by Football engine, it brings fundamental gameplay refinements to every corner of the experience, tightening the connection between real-world football and what happens on the pitch. With 17,000+ players, over 700 teams, 90+ stadiums, and more than 30 leagues, the sheer breadth of licensed content remains one of the strongest arguments for the series.
The game covers the sport's biggest competitions in full, including the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, the newly added UEFA Europa Conference League, CONMEBOL Libertadores, CONMEBOL Sudamericana, Premier League, Bundesliga, and LaLiga Santander. That level of authenticity is hard to replicate elsewhere, and FIFA 22 leans into it across every mode.

What game modes does FIFA 22 include?
FIFA 22 ships with four major pillars, each targeting a different kind of football fan:

- Career Mode (manager and player paths)
- VOLTA Football (street football with seasonal progression)
- FIFA Ultimate Team (squad-building and competitive play)
- Kick Off and online matches for casual play
Career Mode lets you take the manager route, building a custom club from scratch with designed kits and a styled stadium, or climbing from the lower divisions to the top. The player path offers a more personal experience, tracking your Pro's development with expanded progression options that make individual milestones feel meaningful.
VOLTA Football and street-style play
VOLTA Football shifts the tone entirely, trading packed stadiums for street pitches and small-sided games across global locations. The seasonal progression system rewards XP regardless of which VOLTA mode you play, meaning time spent in any part of the mode counts toward unlocking cosmetic gear. It functions as a lighter, more expressive counterpart to the main game, and the seasonal event structure keeps the rotation of content moving.

FIFA Ultimate Team and squad building
FIFA Ultimate Team remains the most-played mode in the game, and FIFA 22 expands it with the introduction of FUT Heroes, a category of cards celebrating iconic players from football history who return to the pitch with boosted ratings tied to their legendary performances. Building a squad pulls from thousands of player cards, and the FUT Stadium feature gives clubs a customizable home ground with kits, badges, and visual flair. Matches run against AI or other players through the FUT Community ladder, keeping the competitive side active.
The mode does include optional in-game purchases of virtual currency (FIFA Points) used to acquire packs, which contain a random selection of player items. The Ultimate Edition includes 4600 FIFA Points at launch. Player spending is entirely optional, but the pack system is central to how the broader FUT economy operates.

Multiplayer and platform reach
FIFA 22 covers the widest possible platform range, running on PC via Steam with DualShock 4 and Xbox controller support, across current and last-gen PlayStation and Xbox hardware, Nintendo Switch (Legacy Edition). Online play spans Ultimate Team matches, VOLTA squad sessions, and traditional head-to-head modes. The cross-mode structure means there are competitive and casual entry points for every type of player, and the licensed competition calendar gives the game an ongoing rhythm tied to real football seasons.
