Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 Patch Notes: Every Changes You Need To Know

Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4, titled Override, drops August 20 with server downtime starting at 2 AM ET and servers expected back online by 6 AM ET. Epic Games has already released the Override trailer, and between that footage and confirmed early patch notes, there is plenty to dig into before the season goes live. New POIs, eight fresh Sprites, three new weapons, collab Mythic items, and a brand-new cartridge mechanic are all confirmed. Here is everything you need to know.

What map changes are coming in Chapter 7 Season 4?

The map is getting a meaningful reshuffle. Three POIs are being cut entirely, and five new ones are taking their place. The biggest addition is the Spire, which sits at the center of the island and replaces the Zero Point as the lore anchor for this season. A new biome surrounds it, identifiable by its distinctly pink-colored trees.

POIs being removed:

  • Calamari Canyon
  • Frosted Flats
  • Sinister Strip

New POIs arriving with Override:

  • Geno's HQ
  • Sonic Green Hills Zone
  • Temple
  • Spire
  • Pac-Man Island

All five new locations appear to radiate outward from the Spire based on the Override trailer. No biomes are being removed, so the existing terrain variety stays intact. Returning POIs include Lifty Lodge, Battlewoods, Latte Landing, Wonkeeland, Golden Grove, Shaken Sanctuary, Cluster Coast, Sunken Shore, Heatwave Harbor, and Chopped Shop.

What are all the new Sprites in Fortnite Season 4?

Sprites are staying in Chapter 7 Season 4, and the roster is expanding significantly. Eight new Sprites are confirmed, with abilities ranging from confirmed to still under wraps. For a full rundown of every confirmed Sprite effect and rarity, check out the Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 Sprite guide.

All eight confirmed new Sprites:

  • Bushranger
  • Sonic
  • Tails
  • Jazz Jackrabbit
  • Klombo
  • Killswitch
  • Crown
  • Unknown Sprite (design contest winner, likely mid-season)

From the trailer, the Tails Sprite lets players glide through the air, and the Sonic Sprite appears to grant a speed boost. The abilities for Bushranger, Jazz Jackrabbit, Klombo, Killswitch, and Crown have not been officially detailed yet.

Extraction Gizmos and Sprite Chests are both expected to carry over from Season 3. The Sprite Garden returns as well, so you can meet both your existing Sprites and any new ones you collect after logging in.

tip
The winner of the Fortnite Design a Sprite contest will likely be added mid-season rather than at launch, so that Unknown Sprite slot may get filled in a later update.

What new weapons are in Chapter 7 Season 4?

Three new weapons are joining the loot pool, all tied to the Gaming Legends theme running through the Override Battle Pass.

The 8-bit Shotgun is the most mechanically interesting of the three. Its cartridge-swapping system ties directly into the new season-wide cartridge mechanic (more on that below). The HJSH-18 Masamune and TKI-20 Shingen are confirmed to be dual-wieldable, as shown in the Override trailer, and appear to be part of a Cyberpunk 2077 Edgerunners crossover.

What are the new collab Mythic items?

Three Mythic items are confirmed for Season 4 launch, each tied to a different crossover.

  • Sonic Spin Dash Mythic: Lets players sprint at high speed and run up vertical surfaces. Epic is pushing this one hardest in promotional material, and the vertical movement angle alone makes it worth grabbing early.
  • Tetriminos Junk Rift: Functions like the existing Junk Rift but summons Tetris blocks instead of random objects.
  • Mega Man Mythic: Operates as a hand cannon with a chargeable special attack. Whether it uses ammo or runs on a cooldown has not been confirmed.
warning
The Mega Man Mythic's charge mechanic is not fully detailed yet. Treat early guides claiming exact cooldown numbers with skepticism until Epic confirms the specifics post-launch.

How does the new cartridge mechanic work?

This is the mechanic that could reshape how matches play out. At some point during each game, players can find a cartridge and insert it into a designated system. The buff it grants applies to every player on the island, not just the one who inserted it. The cartridge can be swapped out once per match, triggering a second island-wide buff.

The practical implication is that whoever controls the cartridge effectively sets the rules for that phase of the match. If your Sprite synergizes well with the active buff, you have a real advantage. Players who ignore the cartridge system are essentially letting opponents dictate the pace.

What is in the Override Battle Pass?

The Chapter 7 Season 4 Battle Pass runs under the Gaming Legends theme. Eight skins are confirmed:

  • Bastion
  • Grace Crowne
  • K1ttyW1ns
  • Wrixel
  • Mali
  • Phantom
  • Geno
  • Sonic The Hedgehog

Sonic is the only confirmed crossover skin on the pass. A new sidekick slot is also part of the Override Pass, with Spyro, Tails, and possibly Rush (Mega Man's robot dog) mentioned as candidates.

When does Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 start?

Server downtime for update v42.00 begins at 2 AM ET on August 20, 2026. Servers are expected to come back online by 6 AM ET the same day. For exact regional start times, see the Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 release date and start times guide.

If you want to get ahead before Override launches, the Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 3 patch notes are still a useful reference for understanding the Sprite system and mechanics carrying over into Season 4. For more guides covering every corner of Override as it launches, the full Fortnite guides collection will be updated throughout the season.
