The best way to get a Pirate Shop Access Token in Fortnite is to open chests in Squads with a chest-revealing Sprite equipped.
The reward is rare, so build your route around chests you can reach and survive long enough to open. A crowded landing that ends your match immediately can cost you more attempts than a quieter route. Plan for several loot stops, and keep enough weapons to defend yourself between them.
How Pirate Shop Access Token drops work
During the Treasure Hunters mini-season, chests in Battle Royale and Zero Build can award Treasure Hunt prizes alongside their usual loot. Normal Chests, Rare Chests, Sprite Chests, Buried Chests, Wanted Poster Chests, and Relic Chests can all qualify. You do not need to find a special token-only chest.
These prizes are awarded automatically, so the token is not a loose item you need to grab before another player does. A successful find produces a gold burst and the banner YOU FOUND PIRATE SHOP ACCESS.
Other special drops, including Gizmos such as the Sprite Locator and Portable Extractor, are separate prizes. The Fortnite Pirate Chest loot and rewards guide explains what those other discoveries contain.
What actually improves your chances
Epic has not published exact token drop odds. There is no guaranteed chest total or farming duration, and the supposed Token Compass is not a real item. Your outfit does not improve the drop chance either.
The useful target is chests per hour. Squad sharing can make teammates' discoveries count for you, while route planning and Sprite perks reduce the time spent finding your next chest. None of these methods guarantees a token from an individual chest.
Use Squads for shared treasure rewards
Play in Squads because a Pirate Shop Access Token found by one squad member is awarded to every member of that squad. You can benefit from a teammate's discovery without personally opening that chest.
Set up your hunt before entering the match:
- Choose Battle Royale or Zero Build.
- Set Team Size to Squads.
- Use Fill if you do not have a full party.
- Agree on a starting area and tell teammates that you are focusing on chests.
- Collect weapons early so you can defend the route.
Squad Fill does not guarantee that everyone will farm chests. Some teammates will play for eliminations or the win, and others may open fewer chests than you. Keep contributing instead of waiting for someone else to find the reward.

Set up shared squad hunting
Choose a route with accessible chests
Arlong Park and Lantern Landing are strong starting options because they are close to one another and connect to further looting through Windmill Village and Loguetown. Choose between them by looking at where other squads are landing.
The Chest offers another starting point, particularly for a buried-chest route. Rubber Resort, Fortune's Fort, Plunder Port, and Busy Bay are alternatives when the main farming areas look too contested.
| Starting option | Follow-up plan | Best reason to choose it | Main drawback |
|---|---|---|---|
| Arlong Park or Lantern Landing | Continue through Windmill Village and Loguetown | A connected route through several chest-heavy locations | Other token hunters may land nearby |
| The Chest | Move toward Lantern Landing or Arlong Park | A buried-chest-focused opening | Digging takes time without a suitable Sprite |
| Rubber Resort or Fortune's Fort | Move to the next uncleared loot area | An alternative when your preferred landing is crowded | Your next stop depends on remaining loot and the storm |
| Plunder Port or Busy Bay | Search available chests, then reassess | Another place to start without forcing the same route every match | Long travel can reduce your chest-opening pace |
When to change your route
Leave an area once its accessible chests have been cleared. Searching the same empty buildings or crossing a long stretch of road without a destination wastes time you could spend looting elsewhere.
Use the Fortnite Pirate Treasure Chest locations guide to identify nearby alternatives before committing to a long rotation. Keep a backup landing in mind so you can change course when another squad takes your intended buildings.
Choose routes for chest access, not a claimed location-specific drop bonus. A less crowded area can be the better choice when it lets you finish looting and continue into another location.

Plan connected chest stops
Equip a Sprite that suits the route
Fortune Sprite variants reveal nearby chests, helping you find loot through walls without checking every room. Two combinations are particularly useful for token hunting: Fortune Exmarks and Fortune Plundarrgh.
Fortune Exmarks for maps and posters
Fortune Exmarks also reveals Treasure Maps and Wanted Posters. At max level, it spawns a Treasure Map.
Maps and posters lead you toward buried Sprite Chests, giving you additional eligible chests to search. Follow these leads when they fit your route. A distant marker is less useful if reaching it means passing several buildings you could loot immediately.
Choose this Sprite when you want to combine ordinary building searches with treasure leads along the way.
Fortune Plundarrgh for buried chests
Fortune Plundarrgh grants increased pickaxe speed and movement speed after opening a chest, alongside its nearby-chest detection.
That combination suits clusters of buried chests. Open one, use the movement boost to reach the next spot, and use the pickaxe-speed boost while digging. Continue through nearby chests to keep benefiting from the opening-triggered bonuses.
Choose this Sprite when your route involves repeated digging and short trips between chest locations. Its advantage is faster looting, not a stronger token roll.

Speed up buried chest routes
Use vaults as an optional chest stop
Vaults group chests into a small area, making them useful additions when one is already near your route. A Vault Key provides normal access, but searching across the map for a key can interrupt a productive chest run.
Explosive Cannon Balls provide another method. Throwing them beside a vault door can let the explosion reach and destroy chests inside. Destroyed chests still qualify for Treasure Hunt rewards, even when you cannot reach the ordinary loot behind the door.
Treat that as an opportunistic detour when you already have the items and a nearby vault. It is not a token guarantee, and there is no need to abandon accessible outdoor or building chests to force it into every match.
Plan your Pirate Shop activation
Finding Pirate Shop Access awards two tokens: one for 2026 and another for 2027. They are separate annual activations, not two windows to spend in the same year.
Each Fortnite Pirate Shop access window lasts 14 days from activation. Eligible cosmetics you claim during that window stay on your account permanently.
What you can claim
The offer covers eligible Item Shop content sold for V-Bucks, with specific exclusions. It does not make every transaction in Fortnite free.
| Content or transaction | Pirate Shop access |
|---|---|
| V-Bucks-priced outfits, back bling, pickaxes, emotes, and gliders | Free to claim during the active window |
| V-Bucks-priced instruments, cars, Kicks, and Jam Tracks | Free to claim during the active window |
| Sidekicks | Limited to one free Sidekick claim |
| Real-money offers, including V-Bucks purchases and cash-priced bundles | Not included |
| Gifts to other players | Not included |
| Passes, pass levels or rewards, and Fortnite Crew | Not included |
Check the shop before activating, and choose a stretch when you can return to claim the offers you want. Save the limited Sidekick claim for one you do not already own.
