GTA 6 most likely comes out at midnight local time on November 19, going by PlayStation Store listings, but Rockstar hasn’t announced a time itself. So midnight is the number to plan around, not a promise. I would 100% pre-load on November 12 either way, because everyone that doesn’t pre-load is going to be hammering it to get it downloaded on the 19th.
Key takeaways
- PlayStation Store data points to midnight local time on November 19, starting in New Zealand.
- Rockstar hasn’t published a release time, and an older schedule with different times is still going around.
- Pre-loading starts on November 12, one week before launch, for digital copies and the physical code-in-a-box version.
What time does GTA 6 unlock in my time zone?
If the PlayStation Store listings hold, GTA 6 unlocks at midnight in each region, with New Zealand first. These are the moments that works out to, all from the 15 release windows GTAVice pulled from the store, running from 11:00 UTC on November 18 to 06:00 UTC on November 19.
| Where you are | Local unlock | In UTC |
|---|---|---|
| New Zealand | 12am, November 19 | 11:00, November 18 |
| Sydney | 12am, November 19 | 13:00, November 18 |
| Japan and South Korea | 12am, November 19 | 15:00, November 18 |
| Central Europe | 12am, November 19 | 23:00, November 18 |
| UK | 12am, November 19 | 00:00, November 19 |
| US Eastern | 12am, November 19 | 05:00, November 19 |
| US Pacific | 9pm, November 18 | 05:00, November 19 |
The US is the awkward one. Notebookcheck’s breakdown says the PlayStation Store suggests 12am EST, and that Central, Mountain and Pacific could unlock earlier on their own clocks because of it. So the Pacific row is what you get if the whole country follows Eastern. If you’re out west, keep an eye on your own store page closer to launch.
Has Rockstar confirmed the GTA 6 release time?
No. Rockstar has confirmed the date and the pre-load, not the hour. Push Square’s guide, dated October 28, says “Rockstar hasn’t revealed any worldwide GTA 6 release times yet” and assumes midnight local until that changes. Gfinity labels the same times as unofficial store timestamps.
Midnight is still a fair bet. PlayStation Game Size, the account that found the 210GB file size, lists midnight too, and Rockstar opened pre-orders at midnight local time on June 25, so there’s a pattern. It’s just not the same thing as Rockstar saying so.
Why do some sites list different GTA 6 times?
Because an older schedule is still floating around. Guru3D ran a list on May 14 with very different times: New Zealand at 7pm on November 18, the UK at 8am on November 19 and the US at 1pm on November 19. It credits Rockstar but doesn’t link or quote a Rockstar post, and it came out months before the store timestamps people found in September.
If you see a time that isn’t midnight, check the date on the article. Every list I’d trust from September onwards, including Gfinity and MP1st, points back to the PlayStation Store, and they all land on midnight local.
Can you play GTA 6 early?
There’s no early access for pre-orders on PS5 or Xbox, according to Notebookcheck. What people keep talking about is the New Zealand trick: because Xbox lets you change your console region, Xbox owners might be able to start when New Zealand does. Notebookcheck and Gfinity both describe it, but nobody has shown it working on GTA 6 yet, since the game isn’t out.
Sony doesn’t offer the same switch. Gfinity says PS5 players would need a separate New Zealand account with the game bought on it. I wouldn’t buy a second copy just to find out.
When can you pre-load GTA 6?
You can pre-load GTA 6 from November 12. Digital pre-orders can start downloading then, and Push Square says it should start automatically on PS5. The boxed version is a code in a box rather than a disc, it’s also out on November 12, and you can redeem that code and pre-load the digital version.
That’s the part I’d focus on, because it’s the bit you control. GTA 6 is a 210GB download on PS5, so you want that sorted a week early instead of racing everyone else on launch night. Anything you can do to make sure you’re playing on the 19th, do it before the 19th.
Is GTA 6 on PC at launch?
No. GTA 6 launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, and there’s still no official PC date. I went through what that means for me in my GTA 6 pre-order and PS5 prices piece: I think I’m going to have to buy a PlayStation, because I don’t think I can get away with waiting for PC.
