Hytale is 10 weeks into early access and already on its fourth update. Update 4 is the biggest content drop since launch, and the team frames it as a foundation patch: the new blocks are the raw material for future biomes and dungeons, while voice chat and emotes are the first pieces of a social layer that will eventually include minigames. Here's everything that landed.
What's new in Hytale Update 4?
Update 4 ships four headline features alongside a block count that dwarfs anything added before it. The short version: 500+ blocks, proximity voice chat, an emote wheel, 7 new hairstyles, and a new creative tool called Revolve. Each of these connects to a longer roadmap the team has been building toward since early access opened.
500+ new blocks: what got added?
This is the headline number, and it holds up on inspection. Roughly half the new blocks are craftable and findable in exploration mode. The other half live exclusively in the Creative Inventory, giving builders access to materials before they appear in the survival world.
Here's a breakdown of what's in each category:
| Category | Block Sets Added | Available In |
|---|---|---|
| Limestone, Slate, Chalk, Cooled Magma | Complete sets | Craft & Explore |
| Rock, Cloth, Smooth Clay, Dirt | Stairs and half slabs | Craft & Explore |
| Gravel and Gravel half slabs | Existing rock types | Craft & Explore |
| Ferns and Grass | Adjusted sets | Craft & Explore |
| Fences and Walls | T-junctions, four-way junctions | Craft & Explore |
| Cloth and tent roof types | Multiple new variants | Craft & Explore |
| Bronze, Copper, Zinc, Iron block sets | Full sets | Creative only |
| Dead Coral | Full set | Creative only |
| Cybercity blocks | Full set | Creative only |
The Cybercity and Dead Coral sets in particular signal where future biomes are heading. Seeing those blocks in Creative mode now is essentially a preview of content the team is actively building.

Hytale Update 4 Patch Notes
How does proximity voice chat work?
Proximity Voice Chat is disabled by default and unavailable on Child accounts. To turn it on, go to Audio Settings and enable it there. You can also bind a hotkey to toggle it mid-session (no default key is assigned to the toggle).
The system is spatially aware: the farther another player is from you, the quieter and more distant they sound. Server operators can configure the exact range and attenuation settings. Players in reverberant spaces or underwater will notice their audio changes to reflect the environment, which is a nice touch for immersion.
A few practical controls worth knowing:
- Input device, input level, noise suppression, and input mode are all adjustable in Audio Settings.
- Push to Talk is supported with a bindable hotkey.
- Players currently talking near you appear in an overlay alongside their avatar.
- Individual players can be muted through the server player list, which displays next to the map.
- Server-side commands live at .voice; client-side commands use /voice.
Emote wheel and new emotes
Holding X opens the Emote Wheel. The key can be rebound in Settings. Update 4 ships 5 new emotes: Chicken, Kill, Laugh, Punch, and Tongue. Some emotes loop, and the wheel displays an icon to identify which ones do before you commit to them.
This is explicitly described as the first piece of a larger social system. Expect the emote roster to grow as minigame content arrives.
New hairstyles: what's available?
Seven new hairstyles join the character creator: Afro, Big Afro, Frizzy Buns, Long Dreadlocks, Puffy Twin Dreads, Dreads Fade, and Star Puffs. Three existing hairstyles also received updates: Puffy Bubble Braids, Afro Puffs, and Puffy Bun.
What does the Revolve creative tool do?
Revolve is a new addition to the creative toolset. Select a region, then use Revolve to paste rotated copies of that selection any number of times, or rotate it fully around a center point. For builders working on circular structures, towers, or symmetrical layouts, this removes a lot of manual repetition.
Pair this with the 500 new blocks and the creative toolkit has taken a meaningful step forward in a single update. If you want to see what's possible with the full building system, the Hytale teleportation complete guide covers infrastructure planning that pairs well with large creative projects.
Modding contest: $100,000 prize pool
The Hytale New Worlds Modding Contest is still running in collaboration with CurseForge, with a $100,000 prize pool across 65 total winners. The team is using the contest partly as a talent pipeline: they're actively hiring from the community, with a specific interest in worldgen, NPC design, and custom experience creators.
What's coming next?
Update 4 is described as a foundation patch, and the team is explicit that content will accelerate once this groundwork is stable. The blocks added here are the palette for upcoming biomes and dungeons. Voice chat and emotes feed into a social layer that will include minigames. The team has also been hiring aggressively and expects that pace to continue.
For players getting started, the Hytale ultimate beginner's guide covers the core systems you'll need before any of this new content becomes relevant. If you run into connectivity issues after the update, the Hytale connection problems guide has fixes for the most common server errors.
