The 2026 League of Legends World Championship runs from October 15 to November 14 across three US cities, with 19 teams fighting for the Summoner's Cup and a $5 million prize pool. T1 are chasing a fourth consecutive title. Gen.G are the favorites on paper. G2 Esports have already beaten both Korean giants this year. The Swiss Stage is already underway as of today, and the bracket picture is starting to take shape.

What is the Worlds 2026 format?
The tournament runs in three stages across four weeks.
Play-In Stage (October 15–18, Los Angeles): Four teams compete in a double-elimination bracket, with every match played as a best-of-five. Only one team advances to the Swiss Stage. The four participants are Karmine Corp, Cloud9 Kia, MVK Esports, and the CBLOL second seed (FURIA Esports).
Swiss Stage (October 23–31, Allen, Texas): Sixteen teams play five rounds. Three wins earns a spot in the Knockout Stage. Three losses means elimination. Regular-season matches are best-of-one, but any match that decides elimination or advancement is played as a best-of-three. Teams are seeded into four tiers for Round 1 matchups, and from Round 2 onward, teams face opponents with the same record. No repeat matchups allowed.
The Round 1 draw tiers are:
- Tier 1: Gen.G, Anyone's Legend, Team Liquid Alienware, G2 Esports
- Tier 2: CBLOL first seed, Team Secret Whales, Hanwha Life Esports, Bilibili Gaming
- Tier 3: LYON, Movistar KOI, T1, TOP Esports
- Tier 4: CTBC Flying Oyster, Shanghai Invictus Gaming, Dplus KIA, Play-In winner
Tier 1 teams draw against Tier 4, and Tier 2 draws against Tier 3. Teams from the same region cannot face each other in Round 1.
Knockout Stage (November 3–14, Allen and Brooklyn): Eight teams enter a single-elimination bracket. The two teams that finish Swiss at 3-0 are drawn against 3-2 teams. The remaining four are drawn randomly against each other. All matches from quarterfinals through the Grand Final are best-of-five.
The Grand Final takes place November 14 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Who are the favorites to win Worlds 2026?
Here's the short answer: Gen.G enter as the consensus favorite, but T1 have won three straight titles and historically peak at Worlds even when their regular season looks shaky.
Gen.G won the LCK playoffs and are attending Worlds for the seventh consecutive year. The catch is they have never won the title as an organization, and star mid-laner Chovy has never reached a Worlds final. G2 knocked them out at the First Stand earlier this year, which adds a layer of doubt.
T1 are the defending champions, having won in 2023, 2024, and 2025. Faker and the roster had a rough regular season, losing to G2 at MSI and to Karmine Corp at the Esports World Cup. T1's LCK playoff qualification came down to another team's result. None of that stopped them the last three years, and analysts consistently point out that T1 seem to save their best play for the international stage.
G2 Esports are the strongest Western contender by a significant margin. They beat Gen.G at the First Stand and T1 at MSI, making them one of the only teams to defeat both top Korean sides in 2026. That résumé is hard to dismiss.
Bilibili Gaming reached the 2024 Worlds final, losing to T1 in Game 5. They won the First Stand this year and dominated both LPL splits. Anyone's Legend enter as LPL champions. TOP Esports qualified via the Regional Finals but carry a concerning record: nine series losses against LCK teams across their last three international appearances.
Karmine Corp knocked T1 out of the Esports World Cup, which is a legitimate result, but they had to come through the Play-Ins first. Hanwha Life Esports won MSI 2026 and round out a genuinely deep Korean lineup alongside Dplus KIA.
