Lego Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight ...

Robin is one of the most requested characters in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, and the good news is you don't have to hunt for him. He becomes available automatically as you progress through the story, no side quests or secret codes required. Here's everything you need to know about when Robin joins the roster and what he brings to the table.

When does Robin unlock?

Robin becomes playable at the very start of Chapter 3: Haly's Circus. This is a story-gated unlock, meaning you simply need to reach that chapter through normal progression. There's no additional requirement to trigger it.

The full playable roster in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight includes Batman, Jim Gordon, Talia Al Ghul, Catwoman, Nightwing, Robin, and Batgirl. Robin sits right in the middle of that unlock sequence, so you'll have a solid crew already by the time he shows up.

Robin's character overview

Who is Robin in this game?

Robin's in-game description leans into his classic identity: the Boy Wonder who sidekicks, punches, and flips through enemies with relentless optimism. The game describes him as a "pun champion," which tells you the tone they're going for with the character.

His alias is Dick Grayson, and he comes equipped with three pieces of gear:

This loadout makes Robin a flexible option for both combat and exploration. The Battle Staff handles close-quarters fights, the Cable Launcher opens up vertical traversal options, and the Birdarang gives him a ranged attack to tag enemies from a distance.

How does Robin compare to other characters?

Robin's gear variety puts him in a solid middle ground. He's not as gadget-heavy as Batman, but the combination of melee reach from the Battle Staff and the Birdarang's ranged utility means he handles most combat situations without needing to swap characters. The Cable Launcher mirrors similar traversal tools found on other characters, so Robin won't feel underpowered in exploration-heavy sections.

How to get to Chapter 3 fast

The main campaign in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight takes around 15 hours to complete, so Robin isn't gated far into the game. Chapter 3 arrives after you work through the Prologue missions (Wayne Manor Grounds, Falcone Confrontation, Mountain Climb, Combat Training, Stealth Training, Gadget Training, and Infiltration) and all of Chapter 1's missions including Returning Home, Docks, Tricorner Investigation, Riddle Me This, Iceberg Lounge, Wayne Industries, Caught Red Hooded, and Red Hood Gang.

If you want to build up resources before Robin arrives, our stud farming guide covers multiplier tricks and the Stud Cache so you can hit Chapter 3 with a healthy upgrade budget ready for Robin's skill tree.

What to do after unlocking Robin

Once Robin is in your roster, a few things are worth doing immediately:

  • Check Robin's upgrade tree and prioritize Battle Staff enhancements if you prefer aggressive melee play
  • Equip Robin as your active character and test the Birdarang on ranged enemies to get a feel for its arc and range
  • Revisit any earlier areas where Robin's specific gear might open previously blocked paths or collectibles
