Marvel Rivals Guide: How to Solve Death of Gambit

The Death of Apocalypse event in Marvel Rivals has been running a murder mystery across Season 9, and the Death of Gambit is the third and final case. After working through Wolverine and Psylocke, this one wraps up the investigation and points directly toward the larger mystery of who killed Apocalypse himself. The puzzle mechanic is the same as the previous cases, but the clues and culprit are entirely different, and the answer isn't obvious from the clues alone.

How does the Death of Gambit case work?

When you open the Death of Apocalypse event in the game's event menu, you'll see a gallery card covered in sparkle icons. Each sparkle represents a clue. Tapping or clicking on one triggers a short conversation between heroes that highlights key words tied to the crime scene.

Collect all the highlighted words across every sparkle, then flip to the investigation page. You'll find a block of text with blanks where key words should go, plus three suspects listed as persons of interest. Your job is to drag the clues you've gathered into the correct blanks.

warning
Once you submit your answers, the game tells you whether any placements are wrong, but it won't tell you which specific blank is incorrect. If something's off, you'll need to review every placement manually.

The event doesn't penalize repeated attempts, so you can keep adjusting until every blank is confirmed correct. That said, if you'd rather skip the trial-and-error entirely, the full solution is below.

What is the correct solution for the Death of Gambit case?

Use the image reference in the event to match every clue word to its corresponding blank in the investigation text. When all clues are placed correctly, the case resolves and names the killer.

The culprit is Parker Robbins, better known as The Hood. He was hunting the Tablet of Death and Entropy and crossed paths with Gambit, who was also searching for the same tablet. The Hood eliminated Gambit to remove the competition.

tip
The Hood is confirmed to be joining the Marvel Rivals roster in Season 9.5, so solving this case gives you some early context on where the character fits into the Season 9 story.

The investigation does throw a red herring early on. A spear-like attack with remnant Phoenix Force energy initially points suspicion toward Black Panther, but that trail goes cold. The Phoenix Force connection turns out to be relevant to the broader Apocalypse mystery instead, since Apocalypse's corpse also carries Phoenix Force energy, raising questions that the final stage of the event addresses.

How does this case connect to the full event?

The Death of Gambit is the last of three murder cases in the Death of Apocalypse event. The first two cover the death of Wolverine and the death of Psylocke, each following the same clue-collection format. Completing all three cases unlocks the final stage, where you can piece together who actually killed Apocalypse.

The three cases aren't standalone puzzles. The clues and suspects across all of them feed into the overarching story, and the Phoenix Force thread running through Gambit's case is one of the details that ties everything together at the end.

tip
If you've already finished the Wolverine and Psylocke cases, jump straight into the Gambit investigation. Completing all three in order is the fastest path to unlocking the Apocalypse finale.
