Season 9 of Marvel Rivals opens with a murder mystery rather than a straightforward event grind. Apocalypse is dead, and the investigation quickly reveals he wasn't the only one killed. Wolverine, Psylocke, and Gambit have all been taken out, and the Death of Apocalypse event tasks you with solving each case one at a time. The first case is Wolverine's, and while the concept is simple, the execution trips up a lot of players. Here's the full walkthrough, including the spoiler-heavy answer.
How does the Death of Wolverine case work?
This event plays differently from standard Marvel Rivals challenges. Instead of completing match objectives, you're piecing together a crime scene through a gallery card covered in sparkle hotspots. Tapping each sparkle triggers a short conversation between heroes, and those conversations contain highlighted key words that serve as your clues.
Collect every key word from every sparkle on the card before moving to the next step. Once all clues are gathered, you flip the page to the investigation screen. There you'll find a block of text with several blanks, plus three persons of interest listed as suspects. Your job is to drag the key words you've collected into the correct blank spaces to reconstruct the account of what happened.

What is the correct solution for the Death of Wolverine?
Fill in all the blanks using the clues you've gathered from the sparkle hotspots on the gallery card. The image in the source confirms the exact placement, but the key outcome is this: every blank resolves to point at a single suspect.
The killer is Bucky Barnes, the Winter Soldier.
The case reveals that Bucky killed Logan's family years ago while operating under Hydra's control. When Wolverine discovered this, his Berserker Rage activated and the two fought. Bucky's mechanical arm landed the killing blow, and the Hive Cells drained not just Wolverine's blood but his healing factor as well, making the wound fatal in a way that would normally be impossible.
What comes after solving Wolverine's case?
With Wolverine's case closed, the Death of Apocalypse event continues. Psylocke and Gambit's cases are still locked at launch and will unlock as the event progresses over the following week. Each new case follows the same clue-gathering and blank-filling format, so the process you learned here carries over directly.
Solving Wolverine's murder is the first step toward uncovering who killed Apocalypse himself, and the cases are designed to build on each other narratively. Keep checking back as new cases drop.
