Overview
Namakorium, developed and published by Polyscape Inc. and released on May 18, 2026, is a cooperative real-time strategy game built around a quietly unsettling premise: humanity has abandoned the oceans, and the only creatures left to fix the mess are sea cucumbers. Up to 4 players command squads of specialized Namakos across 16 stages, gathering resources, constructing buildings, clearing paths, and purifying pollution before the food supply runs dry. The tone is cheerful and chaotic, but the underlying strategy layer has real teeth.
What makes the setup work is the post-apocalyptic worldview sitting just beneath the cute exterior. The Namakos aren't pets, they're the last line of ecological defense in a world humans gave up on. That tension between adorable visuals and grim context gives the game an identity that goes beyond novelty. Stages reward both careful planning and fast adaptation, and the clear-time ranking system gives competitive players a concrete goal to chase.
Gameplay and mechanics
The core loop asks you to manage multiple Namako types simultaneously, each with distinct roles:
- Shell Namako: limestone gathering
- Iron Namako: mining specialist
- Flame Namako: operates in high-temperature zones
- Ice Namako: survives extreme cold environments
- All types: contribute to pollution purification
Assigning the right Namako to the right task is the central puzzle. Maps vary in structure, so a strategy that works cleanly on one stage can fall apart on the next. Resource pressure is constant, purify everything before food runs out, which keeps matches from turning into leisurely base-builders. The Namako Fusion Cannon adds a reactive element: when corrupted Blight Namakos appear and start degrading your food stores, the whole team has to pivot and repel them before returning to cleanup duties.

Multiplayer and social features
Online co-op supports up to 4 players and allows matchmaking with both friends and strangers. The cooperative design leans into the chaos rather than trying to suppress it, plans succeed or collapse in ways that generate their own stories, which is exactly the kind of thing that keeps groups coming back. Communication matters, but the game doesn't punish disorganization so hard that casual groups stop having fun. There's a balance there that takes deliberate design to pull off.
Polyscape has also opened the game fully to streaming and video creation with monetization permitted, which reflects confidence in how the game plays on camera. Namakorium's moment-to-moment chaos translates well to watchable content, and the Blight Namako ambushes in particular tend to produce the kind of reactive gameplay clips that spread organically.

Content and replayability
Solo Mode is a genuine alternative rather than an afterthought. All 16 stages are tuned for single-player, and the mode accommodates two distinct playstyles: relaxed cleanup at your own pace, or fully optimized speed runs chasing the best clear time. Stage titles are awarded based on completion time, giving solo players a progression hook that doesn't require a full squad.

The collectible layer adds another reason to replay. Over 50 Scenic Creatures, a mix of real and fantastical marine species, populate the ocean as you restore it, and collecting all of them requires revisiting stages with different strategies. Watching coral bloom and sunlight return as pollution clears is a satisfying feedback loop that makes the cleanup feel meaningful rather than mechanical.
