Bandai Namco Aces is still investigating PC crashes in ACE COMBAT 8: WINGS OF THEVE after update 1.01.002 introduced an Async Compute workaround. The graphics toggle addresses one potential source of instability while work on other crash causes continues.

The game launched on October 2, 2026, for PC through Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. For PC players experiencing crashes during gameplay, the latest change offers a possible improvement rather than the permanent resolution the developers are pursuing.

The investigation points to certain GPU configurations

Initial findings identified cases where asynchronous computation may affect stability on certain GPU configurations. That finding prompted the new graphics option, but the developers' Steam statement describes an investigation into multiple potential causes of crashes.

The studio also apologized for the “prolonged inconvenience” caused by the crashes and thanked players for their patience. Its stated priority is improving stability and resolving the problems as quickly as possible.

What update 1.01.002 puts in players' hands

Version 1.01.002 adds the ability to enable or disable Async Compute through the Steam version's SYSTEM menu. On compatible GPUs, players now have direct control over the setting implicated in those stability findings.

The developers' recommendation is specific: “Players experiencing crashes may see improvements by changing this setting to OFF.” That is the temporary workaround being offered while the investigation continues.

An earlier PC update separated The Belkan War

Ace Combat 8 has already received another PC-specific change following player feedback. Pre-orders included a free copy of the PlayStation 2-era Ace Combat 0: The Belkan War, but accessing that bonus initially required Wings of Theve.

Steam players had to download the larger game and launch The Belkan War through it. Bandai Namco Aces subsequently released an update making the bonus game a standalone download that could be launched without Wings of Theve installed.

The next stated step for the current stability problems is a permanent crash fix in an upcoming update. For help with the game's other systems while that work continues, browse the Ace Combat 8 guide collection.
