AMD FSR Upscaling 4.1.2 became available to Xbox Series X|S developers on November 5, 2026, through a new Microsoft Game Development Kit (GDK) sample. Studios can now integrate the machine learning-based upscaler into games for both consoles.
Microsoft and AMD worked together to optimize FSR for the consoles' RDNA 2-based GPUs. The technology targets improved image quality while balancing GPU performance, with developers choosing how to apply it within each game.
The release follows October's announcement that FSR 4.1 would come to Xbox Series X|S and ROG Xbox handhelds. The console tools are now available, while the handheld rollout starts through a separate preview.
The Microsoft sample also demonstrates integration across Xbox Series X|S and Windows using AMD's FSR SDK.
What the release means for Xbox players
Player-facing improvements depend on developers adding the technology to individual games. The GDK release makes that work possible.
Developers can use the tools to assess image quality alongside upscaling cost.
Xbox handheld support starts in preview
FSR 4.1.2 is also reaching Xbox handhelds, starting with the ROG Xbox Ally X and X20. That rollout uses a highly efficient INT8 model.
AMD says the handheld preview upgrades DirectX 12 games that use FSR 3.1 or newer. Support for the ROG Xbox Ally follows in a later update.
