ARC Raiders Expeditions Paused Until Early 2027

Time to start a new adventure? | ARC Raiders

If you were planning to grind through multiple Expedition cycles in ARC Raiders over the coming months, here's some news that changes your timeline. Embark Studios has confirmed that the fifth Expedition will be the last one until early 2027, giving the team time to rebuild the system from scratch based on persistent community criticism.

The fifth window opens September 8

The upcoming fifth Expedition Window opens September 8 and stays live until September 29, giving players three weeks to prepare their Caravan and gather the required resources before committing to a wipe. That three-week window is in line with previous Expeditions, so the process itself hasn't changed.

For anyone unfamiliar with how Expeditions work: completing one resets your Raider entirely. Empty stash, back to level one. The trade-off is a set of permanent and temporary rewards, including extra Skill Points and additional Stash Space. The idea is that dedicated players voluntarily sacrifice their progress in exchange for meaningful long-term upgrades.

Here's the thing, though. That trade-off has never fully landed with the community. Players have pushed back on the limited departure windows, the reward structure, and the accessibility barrier that makes the whole system feel out of reach for anyone who hasn't already sunk hundreds of hours into the game.

Why Embark is stepping back

Embark acknowledged those complaints directly in its latest blog post. The studio stated that "bigger changes" are needed to make Expeditions worth engaging with, and that the fifth window will serve as the final one before a significant redesign.

That's a meaningful admission. Expeditions aren't a minor side feature; they're positioned as a core loop for the game's most invested players. Wiping progression and rebuilding is a familiar rhythm in extraction shooters, and when that system doesn't feel rewarding, the players who care most about long-term goals are the ones who feel it hardest.

The gap between the fifth window closing in late September and the revamped system arriving sometime in early 2027 is a long stretch. Embark hasn't locked in a specific return date, and there's a possibility the redesigned Expeditions arrive alongside a major update. The upcoming Frozen Trail update has been mentioned as a reference point, though no firm connection has been confirmed.

What this means for dedicated players

The players most affected are the ones who have already completed multiple Expeditions and were counting on the system to keep progression feeling meaningful. Without Expedition cycles running, the path forward for hardcore players gets narrower.

Embark will need Frozen Trail and whatever else follows it to carry significant weight during that gap. New content, new goals, and new reasons to log in will matter more than usual when the wipe-and-rebuild loop is off the table.

The fourth Expedition is still fresh in memory for many players. If you're still working through that content or want to understand what the fifth window will demand, the ARC Raiders Fourth Expedition Project guide breaks down every stage and requirement in detail.

The fifth Expedition window runs September 8 to September 29. After that, the system goes dark while Embark rebuilds it. Whether the revamped version addresses the community's core concerns is the real question, and that answer won't come until 2027.
