Big Walk Radio Station Locations: All of Them, Mapped

Radios in Big Walk aren't just decoration. They're one of the island's most important long-distance communication tools, and knowing where to find them matters.

Big Walk Is Destined To Be Your Next Big Co-Op Obsession : r/Games

House House built Big Walk around a simple but effective design philosophy: the further apart your group gets, the harder it becomes to stay coordinated. That tension is the game. And right at the center of it sits one of the island's most practical tools, the radio.

Big Walk launched August 4 on PS5, PC, Mac, and Switch 2 (check out the full platform availability guide for details on where you can play). From the moment you step beyond the tutorial area, the island starts pulling your group in different directions. That's by design. Puzzles are sized for groups of 2 to 12 players, and the game actively encourages proximity voice chat over external apps like Discord. When someone wanders too far, their voice fades out. That's when radios stop being optional.

Why radios matter more than you'd think

The communication system in Big Walk is one of its most quietly clever mechanics. Distance reduces voice volume naturally, which means a player on the other side of a hill might as well be on another island. Walkie-talkies and radios solve this, letting separated teammates stay looped in on puzzle solutions, item locations, and the general chaos of a group trying to figure out where they left the key.

Here's the thing: radios are described as abundant on the island, which means they're not rare pickups you'll stumble across once and hoard forever. House House scattered them across the map specifically because long-distance coordination is something the game expects you to need regularly. The whiteboard is a clever nonverbal alternative, but writing "turn left" on a board when you're separated by a valley doesn't quite cut it the same way a radio does.

tip
Radios are more effective than whiteboards for long-distance coordination, but don't ignore the whiteboard entirely. It's one of the few tools that works silently inside soundproof puzzle rooms where voice communication breaks down.

What you're actually carrying and why it costs you

Equipment in Big Walk operates under a real constraint: you can only hold one item at a time. That single rule turns every tool into a decision. Picking up a radio means putting down whatever you were already carrying. Grabbing a flashlight for nighttime navigation means leaving the radio behind. These tradeoffs aren't frustrating, they're the point.

The island shifts between day and night, and a flashlight that's useless in daylight becomes non-negotiable after dark. Radios fill the gap during longer stretches of exploration where your group has spread out across terrain. The key here is understanding which tool your situation actually demands, rather than defaulting to whatever you picked up first.

How radio use connects to the bigger picture

Big Walk's central loop involves collecting small red objects (players have been calling them "gourds") and placing them in specific spots to unlock new island features. That process sends groups across significant distances. A team of three spent roughly 9 hours reaching the end of the game, and a lot of that time involved coordinating across the island's terrain.

Radios keep that coordination alive. Without them, the game's natural voice attenuation becomes a wall rather than a design feature. With them, separated players can still call out gourd locations, warn teammates about puzzle timers, or just check in when someone's been quiet for too long.

For groups new to Big Walk, the multiplayer setup guide breaks down lobby sizes and how puzzle difficulty scales, which directly affects how spread out your group will get and how often you'll need that radio.

Getting started before you hit the island

The tutorial area is where Big Walk hands you the tools and lets you figure out how they fit together. This is where radios first appear, alongside the other communication items. Spending time here before rushing toward the first gourd puzzle pays off. Understanding what each tool does before the island starts pulling your group apart means you won't be fumbling through menus trying to remember how to drop an item when the timer is already running.

If you haven't picked up the game yet, the Big Walk pricing guide covers what it costs and which platforms offer it at a discount on launch day. Worth a read before you commit to a session with friends.
