Blockus, a prominent web3 gaming tech stack, and payments provider has successfully secured $4 million in a pre-seed funding round. Maple VC led the investment, with participation from Altos Ventures and angel investors Zhuoxun Yin from Magic Eden, Michael Ma from CreatorDAO, and Bryan Pelligrino from LayerZero.

This funding milestone comes on the heels of Blockus's participation in a16z Crypto's Startup Accelerator, where it connected with advisors and key pre-seed investors.

Jess Zhang, Blockus co-founder and CEO, noted, "The trust our investors, like Maple VC, have placed in us is both humbling and inspiring. We're ready to unlock the next level of innovation in the gaming industry and bring our blockchain solutions to more studios and developers."

Smooth Player Onboarding

Blockus's technology platform streamlines player onboarding and facilitates on-chain features for game studios. Utilizing a "wallet-as-a-service" model, white-label NFT marketplace, and payment processing for both fiat and crypto transactions, Blockus empowers game developers to focus on game creation rather than intricate blockchain infrastructure.

With established partnerships involving over 30 entities, including web3 game developers like Ambrus Studio (building E4C: Final Salvation) and major gaming layer 1 and layer 2 chains such as Polygon and Sui, Blockus is making strides in both emerging and traditional gaming platforms like Epic Games' Unreal Engine.

Johnson Yeh, Founder & CEO at Ambrus Studio, expressed excitement about Blockus's achievements, stating, "The potential for web3 in gaming is immense, and we're confident that Blockus will play a major role in shaping its future."

Web3 Gaming Growth

While consumer skepticism towards crypto and web3 persists, the rise in dApp activity is undeniable. According to data from DappRadar, February 2024 marked an all-time high of 6.7 million daily unique active wallets, with nearly 2 million engaging in transactions with gaming dApps.

Blockus, eyeing the web3 gaming market's projected growth to over $600 billion by 2030 (from 2023's $8.9 billion market size), positions itself as a trusted partner for blockchain game developers, aiming to capitalize on this anticipated 22% CAGR.

Andre Charoo, General Partner at Maple VC, emphasized Blockus's potential to usher in a new era of gaming, built on decentralization and player ownership. "We believe Blockus is poised to lead the way in the web3 gaming revolution," Charoo stated.

Interested teams can apply on Blockus's website. Blockus will also be making an appearance at the upcoming Game Developers Conference (GDC), with a special offsite event scheduled for March 21st at 7 pm at the SPIN bar, inviting web3 gaming enthusiasts to join.
