Fortnite Bringing Back 100-Player Battle Royale

Epic Games has confirmed that Fortnite Battle Royale will return to its standard 100-player matches and a full-sized island with the launch of Chapter 7. The announcement comes as the game continues its Simpsons-themed mini-season, which introduced dramatic temporary changes to the core Battle Royale format.

A Timeline of the Current Mini-Season Experiment

When the Simpsons mini-season launched at the beginning of November, Fortnite shifted away from its usual large island design. Instead, Epic introduced a compact Springfield-inspired map that covers roughly half the land area of the Chapter 6 island. Alongside the smaller map, Epic reduced the match size from 100 players to 80, creating a more condensed and fast-paced experience.

This design shift significantly altered the way matches play out. With fewer open spaces and more players landing close together, early encounters became unavoidable. It became common for players to drop into named locations and immediately clash with others competing for the same loot.

Epic acknowledged that this season is a deliberate test. In a blog update posted on the Fortnite Status Twitter account, the studio described the changes as an experiment aimed at analyzing how a tighter playing field affects pacing and combat frequency.

Epic Confirms Return to Traditional Battle Royale Format

Epic clarified that the current map and player limit are temporary. The studio plans to bring back the classic 100-player setup and a more spacious map once the mini-season concludes on November 29. When Chapter 7 launches, the core Battle Royale experience is expected to return to its familiar rhythm of longer rotations, wider exploration, and more strategic engagements.

Epic stated that the goal of the experiment was to “concentrate the action” and study how the community responds to faster match pacing. Feedback from this mini-season appears to be informing the balancing and design decisions that will shape Chapter 7.

Limited-Time Simpsons Weapons Available This Weekend

Alongside the scaled-down map and match size, Epic also introduced temporary Simpsons-themed weapons. For a limited time during the upcoming weekend, the Deodorant Applicator and Bart’s Slingshot will be available in the Battle Royale loot pool. These items were previously exclusive to the Delulu mode, making this their first appearance in standard Battle Royale matches.

These themed additions are part of a broader push by Epic to introduce more experimental and collaborative content into Fortnite, including ongoing cross-media partnerships and integrations across console, PC, and web3-related areas of the community.

Looking Ahead to Chapter 7

Fortnite’s Simpsons season will remain active until November 29. Epic has not shared full details on what Chapter 7 will include beyond the return of the larger map and the traditional 100-player format. As the launch date approaches, players can expect additional announcements regarding map changes, gameplay updates, and potential new collaborations.
