Mojang Studios and Merlin Entertainment officially announced Minecraft World during the Minecraft Live showcase, a dedicated theme park experience slated to open sometime in 2027. The park will be built into the existing Chessington World of Adventures resort in Greater London, giving the UK its very first video game theme park based on an official IP.
A £50 million bet on blocks and biomes
The numbers here are serious. Minecraft World carries a development budget of £50 million, which comes in just under $70 million. That's not a small pop-up attraction or a branded gift shop. That's a full-scale investment in bringing Minecraft's universe into the physical world.
The centerpiece? A world-first Minecraft roller coaster. Beyond that, Merlin's plans include themed retail and dining, plus experiences pulling from what they describe as "fan favourites and ridiculous fun from the Minecraft universe."
