Minecraft World theme park ...

Mojang Studios has been on a roll lately, and now they're taking Minecraft somewhere nobody quite expected: a real-world theme park, complete with its own roller coaster.

Mojang Studios and Merlin Entertainment officially announced Minecraft World during the Minecraft Live showcase, a dedicated theme park experience slated to open sometime in 2027. The park will be built into the existing Chessington World of Adventures resort in Greater London, giving the UK its very first video game theme park based on an official IP.

A £50 million bet on blocks and biomes

The numbers here are serious. Minecraft World carries a development budget of £50 million, which comes in just under $70 million. That's not a small pop-up attraction or a branded gift shop. That's a full-scale investment in bringing Minecraft's universe into the physical world.

The centerpiece? A world-first Minecraft roller coaster. Beyond that, Merlin's plans include themed retail and dining, plus experiences pulling from what they describe as "fan favourites and ridiculous fun from the Minecraft universe." Think iconic biomes, mobs, and items translated into real, walkable spaces. Creepers in the real world. Wonderful.

Creator collaboration, but no names yet

One detail worth noting: Minecraft World is being designed in collaboration with Minecraft content creators. The goal is authenticity, making sure the park feels genuinely true to the game rather than a generic branded overlay slapped onto an existing attraction.

Here's the thing, though. No specific creators have been named yet. It's a notable detail to drop without any follow-through, so that part of the story is still very much developing. Keep an eye on the official Minecraft articles page for updates as the project takes shape.

Putting it in context

Minecraft World isn't arriving in a vacuum. The past few years have seen video game IPs make serious moves into physical entertainment spaces. PokéPark Kanto opened in Japan, and Super Nintendo World launched at Universal Studios in Orlando, both to massive enthusiasm. Minecraft World follows that same playbook, just with a distinctly British postcode.

What makes this one stand out is the scale of Minecraft's fanbase. The game has sold over 300 million copies and remains one of the most-played titles on the planet across every generation of player. A theme park built around it has a genuinely enormous potential audience, and basing it at Chessington puts it right in reach of one of Europe's largest urban populations.

The 2027 timeline still leaves plenty of room for more announcements, especially around which creators are involved and what specific experiences the park will feature. For the latest on what Mojang has been announcing lately, the recent Minecraft Live showcase covered a lot of ground, and you can catch up on all the key reveals from the event. If you're already planning a UK trip around this, 2027 can't come fast enough. Make sure to check out more:
