Mojang is giving away a free Aurora Cape for both Java and Bedrock editions of Minecraft, and the barrier to entry is almost embarrassingly low. Watch a qualifying Minecraft Dungeons 2 livestream for a few minutes, grab a code, and redeem it. No Minecoins, no marketplace purchase, just a short watch-time quest with a hard deadline of October 14, 2026.
What is the Aurora Cape and how long is it available?
The Aurora Cape is a vanilla-exclusive cosmetic tied to the launch of Minecraft Dungeons 2. Mojang revealed it as a limited-time drop running from September 29 (12:00 AM PT) to October 14 (11:59 PM PT), 2026. Once that window closes, the promotion ends and the cape is gone. It works in both Java and Bedrock, so you only need to redeem the code once through your Microsoft account.
How to get the Aurora Cape code on Twitch
Twitch is the more straightforward option for most players. Here's exactly what you need to do:
- Log in to your Twitch account during the promotion window.
- Search for a livestream in the Minecraft Dungeons 2 category.
- Confirm the stream has the drops-enabled tag and that the streamer is a Twitch Partner or Affiliate. Streams without this tag won't count toward your quest.
- Watch for at least 15 minutes without switching streams mid-way.
- Once the quest completes, follow the reward notification to receive your Aurora Cape code.

How to get the Aurora Cape code on TikTok
TikTok requires significantly less time, making it the faster route if you have the app handy.
- Log in to TikTok during the promotion period.
- Find a Minecraft Dungeons 2 livestream with the Game Rewards enabled tag.
- Watch for at least 3 minutes to complete the quest.
- Follow the reward notification to collect your Aurora Cape code.
Three minutes is genuinely nothing. If you have TikTok installed and a qualifying stream is live, this is the quickest path to the cape.
How to redeem the Aurora Cape in Minecraft Java and Bedrock
Once you have the code from either platform, redemption takes under a minute.
- Go to the official Minecraft Redeem page at minecraft.net/redeem.
- Make sure you're signed in with the Microsoft account linked to your Minecraft profile.
- Enter your 25-digit code in the text field.
- Click Redeem to apply the cape to your account.
- Launch either Java or Bedrock and equip the cape from your character customization screen.
What else is available during the Minecraft Dungeons 2 launch?
The Aurora Cape isn't the only free cosmetic tied to the Dungeons 2 launch window. Mojang has been running several cape promotions alongside the game's release. Frequently asked questions
Does the Aurora Cape work on both Java and Bedrock?
Yes. Redeeming the 25-digit code through the Minecraft Redeem page on your Microsoft account applies the cape to both editions automatically.
What happens if I miss the October 14 deadline?
The promotion ends and the cape is no longer available. There's no indication Mojang plans to re-run this specific drop after the window closes.
Do I need to own Minecraft Dungeons 2 to get the cape?
No. You only need to watch a qualifying Dungeons 2 stream on Twitch or TikTok. Owning the game is not a requirement for the cape drop.
Can I watch a recorded stream or VOD instead of a live one?
No. The drop system on both Twitch and TikTok requires watching a live broadcast. VODs and recorded content don't trigger the quest.
