VTubers experience growth in popularity
Twitch's 2024 report also highlighted the rising presence of VTubers on the platform. Hours watched for VTuber streams increased by 10 percent compared to the previous year. British VTubers saw the sharpest growth, with a 200 percent jump in hours watched. Despite this surge in the United Kingdom, VTubers maintained their largest audiences in the United States, Japan, and the United Kingdom. The trend points to a shift in viewer preferences, with audiences increasingly drawn to virtual content creators alongside traditional streamers.
Major events and engagement on Twitch
Beyond regular gaming streams and VTubing, Twitch saw strong engagement with major live events hosted by prominent creators. Kai Cenat's 30-day Subathon and Ibai's boxing event both attracted large audiences and widespread attention. These events show Twitch's expanding role as a platform for diverse live experiences, reaching beyond its original gaming focus into broader digital entertainment.
Anticipation for Grand Theft Auto VI
The enduring popularity of Grand Theft Auto V sets the stage for the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI, expected later this year. GTA V has long supported creative roleplay experiences through its main storyline and GTA Online. With a massive and dedicated audience already in place, Grand Theft Auto VI is poised to draw significant attention at launch and could reshape Twitch's streaming landscape in the months ahead.
