The Palpagos Islands just got a serious visual upgrade, and the Palworld community is responding fast. A mod called Ultra Graphics, uploaded by modder Fr4nsson to Nexus Mods, has crossed 18,000 downloads in a matter of days since Palworld's 1.0 launch, adding ray-traced Lumen global illumination to a game that already demands a respectable GPU to run at its best.
What the mod actually changes
Palworld already sets a fairly high visual bar. The base game requires an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 at minimum and supports DLSS, shadow quality options, and detailed grass rendering. Here's the thing, though: its lighting has always been a weak point. Torches and other in-world light sources don't do much beyond their immediate radius, and the ambient lighting across the islands can feel flat compared to the rest of the presentation.
Fr4nsson's Ultra Graphics mod targets exactly that gap. It brings in ray-traced Lumen global illumination, extended view distance, improved sunlight and ambient lighting, and dynamic shadows for torches and other light sources. The result is a Palpagos that feels more alive at dusk and dawn, where light actually bounces and bleeds the way it should.
Fr4nsson isn't new to this. The same modder created a lighting overhaul for Fallout 4 that has accumulated 1.2 million downloads since 2015, which puts the 18,000 Palworld figure in context. That's a fast start for a mod that requires a bit more setup than a one-click install.
Setup requirements and multiplayer limits
This mod won't work through the Vortex mod manager out of the box. Fr4nsson provides detailed installation instructions on the Nexus Mods page, so players will need to follow those steps manually before jumping in. It's not a complicated process, but it does require some attention.
That client-side limitation is worth keeping in mind for anyone who spends most of their time in co-op. The mod won't break anything for players who don't have it, but the lighting improvements simply won't carry over to others in the session.
Timing it with 1.0
The mod dropped alongside Palworld's full 1.0 release, which added 72 new Pals, a sky island zone, a reworked story, and a breeding mutation system. You can catch up on everything that changed in the Palworld 1.0 major changes and additions guide if you haven't already. The timing was clearly deliberate on Fr4nsson's part, riding the wave of renewed player interest as Pocketpair's game hit its full launch milestone.
The 18,000 download count this early suggests there's real appetite for visual mods in this community, not just gameplay tweaks and Pal additions. Palworld's base visuals are competent, but players clearly want more from the lighting engine, and Fr4nsson is delivering that.
For anyone jumping back into the game after the 1.0 update, the full list of new Pals added in 1.0 is a good place to start before worrying about graphics mods. But if your rig can handle the extra load, the Palpagos Islands with ray-traced lighting is a noticeably different experience from what launched in early access.
