Palworld 1.0 is live and brings flying islands and 72 new Pals.

Palworld 1.0 dropped on July 10, 2026, and the patch notes clock in at over 10,000 words. That's not a routine update. Pocketpair has overhauled the story, added an entirely new sky zone, introduced 72 new Pals, and rebuilt core systems like sanctuaries and breeding. If you haven't logged in since early access, the game you left is not the game waiting for you.

What's actually new in Palworld 1.0?

The short answer: a lot. The full version brings new zones, a reworked main story, expanded Pal mechanics, and quality-of-life changes across the board. Here's a breakdown of everything worth knowing before you load in.

The World Tree and story rework

The main story has been rebuilt to flow more naturally from one beat to the next. The World Tree is now revealed as part of the narrative, and the rivalries between the game's different factions get proper context. Isolated areas of the map have also been reorganized, so exploration feels less like stumbling and more like discovering.

New side quests and Journal entries have been added throughout the world, giving you more reasons to poke around settlements and talk to NPCs beyond just farming resources.

Sunreach: the new sky zone

Sunreach is the headline addition for exploration. It's a set of floating islands sitting above Palpagos, and it brings its own ores, exclusive Pals, and content that you won't find anywhere else on the ground. Think of it as the game's answer to what happens after you've seen most of the base map.

New settlements have been scattered across the world as well, complete with new NPCs and sub-quests tied to them.

How many new Pals are in Palworld 1.0?

72 new Pals have been added in 1.0, along with several new variants. That's a substantial roster expansion, and it's spread across both the existing map and Sunreach. Pal habitats have been rebalanced so spawns feel less arbitrary, and the sanctuaries have received a significant overhaul.

Each sanctuary now has its own distinct environment, and the Pals you find there are exclusive to that location. That changes how you approach sanctuary runs, since you can no longer treat them as interchangeable farming spots.

Sanctuary-exclusive Pals won't appear anywhere else on the map. If you want specific Pals from those locations, you'll need to plan dedicated trips rather than hoping they show up in the wild.

What changed with breeding and Partner Skills?

Breeding got a meaningful upgrade with the introduction of Mutation, a new mechanic that gives a low chance of producing a stronger version of a Pal when breeding. It's not guaranteed, but it adds a new layer of optimization for players who want the best possible Pals.

Partner skills have also been majorly reworked, and new active and passive skills have been added to the pool. If you've been running the same Pal team for months, it's worth reviewing what's available now. For a full breakdown of what combinations are worth chasing, the best breeding combos guide covers the top pairings in detail.

Movement with Pals has also been updated. New motions and riding controls make getting around feel noticeably different, particularly for Pals you use as mounts.

What's the player level cap in Palworld 1.0?

The player cap has been raised from 65 to 80. The new levels above 65 are tied to Ancient Technology, so reaching the cap isn't just a number change. There's actual progression content built around those upper levels.

The new Ancient Technology progression tied to levels 66-80 means players who hit the old cap have a clear reason to keep grinding. It's not just cosmetic headroom.

How do you get started with Palworld 1.0?

If this is your first time playing, the reworked story and reorganized world make 1.0 the best entry point the game has had. For returning players, the decision of whether to start fresh or carry over your existing world is worth thinking through carefully.

You'll also want to confirm your platform situation. The 1.0 release has specific availability details depending on whether you're on PC, console, or elsewhere, and the platform availability guide for PS5, Xbox, PC, and Switch has the full breakdown.

For everything else, the full Palworld guides collection covers the systems that matter most as you work through the new content.
