The original schedule had the August Community Day penciled in for Saturday, August 15. It will now take place on Sunday, August 16 instead. That is the full extent of the change: one day later, same general format. Community Day events in Pokemon GO typically run from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. local time, and there is no indication that window is shifting.
Niantic has not explained why the date moved. The developer has stayed quiet on the reasoning, which has already frustrated a portion of the player base who had already arranged their schedules around the original Saturday slot. Whether something else is planned for August 15 remains unknown for now.
The Pokemon in the spotlight is still a mystery
Full details for the August event have not been announced yet. What players do know is that the featured Pokemon will be one of four candidates that Niantic put to a community vote: Tadbulb, Nickit, Fidough, or Yamper. The vote results have not been revealed, and Niantic is expected to announce the winner sometime in July alongside other event specifics like the Featured Attack.
The key here is that the vote already happened, so the Pokemon is decided. Players just have to wait for the official reveal.
A summer already packed with events
The date shift lands in the middle of Pokemon GO's busiest stretch of the year. The June Community Day featuring Frigibax is set for Saturday, June 20, with the July event following on Saturday, July 4. That July event will feature Sobble, completing a run of all three Galar starters getting dedicated Community Days in 2026.
Beyond Community Days, Pokemon GO Fest Global is scheduled for July, and Super Mega Raid Days and Spotlight Hours are already confirmed for the summer calendar. There is a lot happening in a short window, which makes the advance notice on the August date change at least somewhat useful, even if the reasoning behind it remains unclear.
Pokemon GO is also celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, so Niantic has extra motivation to keep the event slate feeling meaningful. The game has come a long way since its July 2016 launch, and Community Days remain one of its most reliable engagement drivers.
