Red vs Blue: The Aussie Rivals Pack Comes to Project Motor Racing | Project Motor Racing

Giants Software and Straight4 Studios have pushed Update 2.1 for Project Motor Racing, and it is a substantial one. The headline addition is the free 'Aussie Rivals' DLC pack, but the update itself reaches much further than a couple of new cars.

The Aussie Rivals pack and what it actually means

The 'Aussie Rivals' pack brings the 2013 Holden VF Commodore and a completely reworked 2013 Ford Falcon FG to Project Motor Racing at no cost. These two cars represent the tail end of a genuinely iconic era in Australian motorsport: the last time Holden and Ford went head-to-head with locally manufactured shells before Holden switched to the imported ZB Commodore in 2018. Car manufacturing in Australia effectively ended around that same period, and the Supercars series has since moved on to Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang bodies.

This specific era of V8 Supercars racing has appeared in several Forza Motorsport titles and on iRacing, but it has never made it into Gran Turismo. For PS5 players who have been locked out of this slice of motorsport history on their platform of choice, that gap makes the Aussie Rivals pack a genuinely meaningful addition.

GT3 and GT4 get a physics rebuild from the ground up

The bigger technical story inside Update 2.1 is the complete handling overhaul for the GT3 and GT4 categories. The rebuild was led by new CCO Aristotelis Vasilakos, who previously served as the handling lead at Kunos Simulazioni on Assetto Corsa. That is a significant hire, and his fingerprints on the physics model should be immediately noticeable to anyone who has spent time with that sim.

Straight4 describes the update as delivering "major improvements across content, physics, online racing, immersion, presentation, and close-quarters racing." The collision system has been improved, and various graphical refinements have been applied throughout the game. Logitech Trueforce feedback support has also been extended to all platforms with this update.

tip
Alpha triple-screen support is currently a PC-only feature in Update 2.1. Console players will want to watch for future updates on multi-display functionality.

Online sessions get a practical quality-of-life fix

The online flow changes in 2.1 are small but the kind of thing that matters after a few hours of play. Players can now join supported online sessions after they have already started, removing the wait-for-restart requirement. Those registered for a ranked session no longer need to sit on the registration screen, either. You can return to other parts of the game and receive a notification when the session is ready to join directly.

These are not flashy features, but they are the sort of friction points that quietly make a sim feel more or less polished over extended play.

Where this leaves Project Motor Racing

This update follows a significant patch released back in March, which Straight4 framed at the time as a foundation reset for the sim. Update 2.1 builds on that work rather than replacing it.

New CEO Kevin Boland put it plainly: "Players have been putting in the laps, giving us the feedback, and pushing us to make PMR better. Update 2.1 is the result of that process: a major GT4 and GT3 overhaul, cleaner racing, better online flow, stronger immersion features, and the free Aussie Rivals Pack, delivered as a big thank you to our community that continues to inspire and shape Project Motor Racing."

Here's the thing: the combination of a credible physics hire, a free DLC drop, and meaningful online improvements in a single update suggests Straight4 is taking the long-game approach to building out this sim. Whether the GT3 and GT4 feel translates to the track is something players will sort out quickly. The Aussie Rivals pack is free regardless, so there is no barrier to finding out.
