About Code of Joker: Evolution

Code of Joker: Evolutions is the newest entry in the Code of Joker series, a digital trading card game that Sega first launched in 2013. The game built a strong following in Japanese arcades, running on more than 650 amusement facilities with over 2,760 satellite units deployed. This blockchain-enabled version lets players prove ownership of their digital cards, trade them with others, and display their collections using Sui's infrastructure.

Jokers Inc. is spearheading the project, with a team that includes former Sega producers Yasuhiro Nishiyama and Wataru Sato, who previously worked on Sangokushi Taisen and Bakugan. The studio is using blockchain technology to add new layers of value to digital card games while keeping the strategic depth that made Code of Joker popular in the first place.

Integration with Sui Blockchain

Jokers Inc. chose Sui for its transaction speed and digital ownership capabilities. Takashi "Gin" Mizouka, cofounder of Jokers Inc., wanted to recreate the tactile thrill of cracking open a physical card pack in digital form. Sui was the only blockchain that could deliver the technical performance needed to make that experience work without lag or friction.

Evan Cheng, CEO of Mysten Labs, sees gaming as a major driver for web3 adoption, and this partnership demonstrates how blockchain economies can support established game franchises. Parasol's CEO Kai Chen pointed to Sui's technical capabilities as a key reason developers are choosing the platform for blockchain integration.

Upcoming Release and Future Prospects

Code of Joker: Evolutions is scheduled to launch on iOS, Android, and web platforms by the end of summer 2025. The release targets both longtime fans of the series and newcomers curious about blockchain-powered card games. The Sui ecosystem is expanding its web3 gaming support beyond this title. Mysten Labs is developing SuiPlay0X1, a hardware device built to run both web2 and web3 games in partnership with Playtron OS.

Sui has also backed several independent gaming projects, showing a commitment to growing the blockchain gaming space. Parasol, which Mysten Labs acquired in 2024, brings deep experience in gaming hardware and software development. The company's team of Japanese and American gaming specialists is working to make blockchain integration straightforward for developers. This partnership with Jokers Inc. and Sega is part of a larger push to bring established gaming IPs into web3.
