Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is launching its first Year Two update, version 2.0.0, today, November 3, 2026. The opening patch changes how players compete and build their racing setups, with head-to-head contests sitting alongside a less punishing option for anyone taking a break from ranked play.

Ahead of the rollout, Sonic Global Community Director Aaron Webber previewed the additions and balance changes. The day-one update reaches beyond new race formats, touching gadget management, daily objectives, and the way Festivals run.

Duel Mode puts one rival in your sights

Duel Mode reduces the field to a single opponent. Its new Duel Boost mechanic gives the trailing racer a chance to catch up, keeping a head-to-head contest alive when one driver starts pulling away.

The update includes four Duel formats, giving that one-on-one setup several ways to play:

  • Rival Duel
  • Duel Match (Free Match)
  • Duel Match (Best-of-10)
  • Friend Match

Friend Match brings that rivalry into races with someone you know. A packed field has its appeal, but a dedicated duel makes the contest personal: there is only one other racer to beat.

World Match gets its own casual option through Free Match, where results leave rankings unchanged. New rivals also join World Match, awarding extra Donpa tickets when you beat them. Those are separate incentives: a lower-pressure place to race and another opportunity to earn rewards.

The Grand Master Plate expands gadget setups

For a broader look at Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds beyond the new modes, the in-depth review covers the racing itself. This update's next major change sits in the loadout: 15 new gadgets are joining the pool.

The new Grand Master Plate adds a 7th super slot for 1-slot gadgets, with a boosted effect. Additional gadget plates are coming, too, so the equipment changes involve both the gadgets available and the plates players use to equip them.

Managing those choices gets some attention. Players can bookmark gadgets, and additional filters are being added to help sort the selection. That is a practical companion to an update that expands the equipment pool.

Balance adjustments cover gadgets, racing stats, machine types, and COM opponents. The patch therefore changes existing racing setups as well as introducing new options.

Daily missions and longer Festivals change the routine

The new Play Missions feature awards tickets and medals for completing daily objectives. For regular Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds players, that adds a recurring reward route alongside the update's new competitive options, rather than tying every addition to a different race format.

Festivals now last 10 days, with rankings changing to Winning Streak Rankings. AI Rival Teams are also available as Festival opponents, while online play awards more Crown types. The longer event window and revised ranking format change both the schedule and the competition within it.

The main menu is being reworked around the added modes. Other additions include the Sega Fighting Beats Infinity album and new collaboration decals, while the update also changes the maximum cap for Likes and includes bug fixes.

Bayonetta leads the free character rollout

Bayonetta arrives as a free character alongside the Year Two launch. The broader schedule includes more free and paid characters and machines, giving the opening systems update a separate stream of roster additions to follow.

Next on the free-content schedule are McLaren Racing (Sonic) later in November and Aigis in early 2027. Returning drivers can explore the racer's existing systems in the Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds guide collection as those additions approach.
