Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream Update 1.0.4 Fixes Save Corruption Bug

Nintendo has pushed out version 1.0.4 for Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, tackling a nasty save data corruption bug tied to Island Builder and several other issues.

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream

Nintendo dropped version 1.0.4 for Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream on July 22, 2026, and this one is worth paying attention to. The patch addresses a handful of bugs that have been quietly frustrating players since the game launched on Switch in April, including one that could wipe your save data entirely.

The save corruption bug that needed fixing yesterday

The headliner here is a fix for a rare but devastating issue: using Island Builder could, under certain conditions, corrupt your save data and prevent the game from launching at all. That is about as bad as bugs get in a life-sim where you have spent hours building out your island and populating it with Miis. Nintendo has squashed it in this update.

A second progression-blocking bug also got the axe. After resolving a Mii character's concerns, the game could fail to move forward properly and throw an error that forced the whole thing to close. Not exactly the feel-good resolution you were hoping for after sorting out your Mii's emotional drama.

Display glitches cleaned up across the island

Beyond the stability fixes, Nintendo also addressed a couple of visual oddities. Mii character portraits on posters inside the clothing shop were not displaying correctly, which is a minor thing until you notice it and cannot stop noticing it. The second display fix involves the Ferris wheel and news station posters, where Mii characters were being selected unevenly, meaning some Miis were showing up far more than others. Both are now resolved.

The full official patch notes for version 1.0.4 are as follows:

  • Fixed an issue where, on rare occasion, after using Island Builder, save data would become corrupted, preventing the game from starting for subsequent play sessions.
  • Fixed an issue where the game could not progress properly after resolving a Mii character's concerns, resulting in an error that would cause the game to close.
  • Fixed an issue where Mii characters on posters at the clothing shop would not display correctly.
  • Fixed an issue where Mii characters on posters at the Ferris wheel or the news station were unevenly selected.
  • Other issues were fixed to improve the gameplay experience.

If you have been holding off on using Island Builder because of reports about save corruption, this patch clears that concern. Update before your next session.

Where this lands in the post-launch patch cycle

This is the fourth patch Nintendo has released for the game since April, which tells you the team has been actively monitoring and responding to player feedback. Version 1.0.4 is not a content drop, but stability and data integrity matter more than new features when the alternative is losing your island progress.

For players just getting started, Nintendo still has a Welcome Version available as a free download on the eShop, so there is a low-commitment way to try the game before buying in. If you are already deep into island life and want to spend your in-game currency wisely, the best wishes to prioritize guide breaks down exactly where to put your Wishes for maximum return.

The broader Nintendo Switch update cycle has been busy this week, with Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and the new release Splatoon Raiders also receiving patches.
