Rocky Ridges is one of the most content-packed areas in Pokemon Pokopia, introducing two major NPCs, a string of cooking quests, and a brand-new move that clears the path forward. After finishing the Withered Wastelands questline and opening the Area Gates, this desolate stretch of land becomes your next big challenge. Expect to spend a solid chunk of time here, because the objectives chain together in satisfying and sometimes surprising ways.
How Do You Enter Rocky Ridges?
Head to the northwest gate in Withered Wasteland to cross into Rocky Ridges. Professor Tangrowth will follow you through. Once inside, a cutscene plays before you can explore freely. Head west to examine the PC, which triggers another cutscene revealing the core problem: the PC is broken and disconnected from its power source. Neither you nor the Professor can fix it alone, so the solution involves building habitats and recruiting help.
How to Restore the PC and Learn Strength
Unlocking Strength from Machoke is the first major milestone in Rocky Ridges. Follow these steps carefully:
- Wait for a yellow speech bubble to appear above Professor Tangrowth, then talk to him.
- Plant a 2x2 patch of Red Tall Grass to create the Red Tall Grass habitat.
- Examine the rustling grass to befriend Scorbunny.
- Talk to Scorbunny to receive a hint for the Grassy Training Field habitat.
- Place a second 2x2 patch of Red Tall Grass and add the two sandbags collected near the workbench. Note: placing a sandbag next to Scorbunny's existing habitat will not create the Grassy Training Field. You need a separate patch.
- Examine the rustling grass at the Grassy Training Field to befriend Machoke.
- Follow Machoke and talk to him to start his request. Pick up 5 stones from the surrounding area and return to him to learn Strength.
- Hold down A while standing in front of the giant rock to use Strength. (Holding ZR will not work here.)
- Deliver the boulder, then return to the Pokemon Center and push the PC onto the electric socket using Strength.
- Examine the restored PC to receive the important request: Rebuild the Pokemon Center.
info
Collect the five stones before talking to Machoke a second time to save yourself a trip back across the area.
How to Rescue Chef Dente
After the PC is back online, Professor Tangrowth leads you toward a strange noise. You find Chef Dente trapped inside a floating barrel attached to a chain. Freeing him requires a multi-step cooking chain that upgrades your Cut move.
Step 1: Build the Cutting Board and Make a Simple Salad
- Climb onto the wooden box and attempt to use Cut on the chain. This gives you a hint for the Pointy Tree-Shaded Rocky Tall Grass habitat.
- Head southwest and use Strength to place a boulder next to the pointy tree. Place 4 Red Tall Grass tiles to create the habitat.
- Befriend Dartrix and talk to it, selecting "Can you make cutting boards?"
- First, craft a Perch using 2 Small Logs and 1 Leaf (grab the recipe from the golden Poke Ball near the workbench), then place it near Dartrix to complete the request and unlock the Cutting Board recipe.
- Give Lumber to Dartrix, then craft the Cutting Board at the workbench using 2 Lumber.
- Place the Cutting Board and make a Simple Salad using 2 Leaves. Eating it strengthens Leafage, letting you plant grass over a wider area and grow moss and aquatic plants.
danger
Simple Salad has a limited number of uses. Craft several before moving on, especially since you will need Leafage to create the Mossy Hot Spring habitat.
Step 2: Bake Bread and Power Up Cut
- Talk to Professor Tangrowth after eating the salad to get a hint for the Mossy Hot Spring habitat.
- Use Rock Smash to enter the western cave, then place 4 Moss Plants near the water inside to create the habitat.
- Befriend Torkoal and accept its request: clear a path from the Mossy Hot Spring to the Pokemon Center. Place stairs and grow moss along the route to keep Torkoal moving.
- Once Torkoal arrives at the Pokemon Center, talk to it to receive the Bread Oven recipe.
- Craft the Bread Oven using 2 Stones, 2 Small Logs, and 4 Volcanic Ash. Volcanic Ash is found by using Rock Smash on the black soil east of the Pokemon Center.
- Call Torkoal or Scorbunny to light the fire on the Bread Oven.
- Head to the fields southwest of the map, destroy the rocks blocking the water on the hill to let it flow, then grow and harvest 3 Wheat.
- Bake Simple Bread using those 3 Wheat. Eating the bread powers up Cut so it can slice through chains and wire mesh.
- Return to the barrel and cut the chain to rescue Chef Dente.

How to Unlock Rollout from Graveler
Once Chef Dente is free, the story shifts toward cooking again, this time to craft a frying pan and eventually unlock the Rollout move.
Making the Frying Pan and Hamburger Steak
- Talk to Chef Dente in front of the Pokemon Center, then follow him into the cave.
- Talk to Professor Tangrowth to get the Frying Pan recipe.
- Follow Machoke (wait for his yellow speech bubble) and use your bread-powered Cut to destroy the wire mesh blocking his path.
- Examine the sparkly spot in front of the smelting furnace for a hint about the Digging and Burning habitat.
- Place the Wheelbarrow and Excavation Tools beside the Smelting Furnace to create the habitat and befriend Magmar.
- Use Rock Smash on ore blocks to harvest Copper Ore, then smelt it with Magmar's help to produce 2 Copper Ingots.
- Craft the Frying Pan at the workbench using those ingots, then place it on the stove near Chef Dente.
- Grow Beans on the southwest fields (the waterway from your wheat field will allow beans to grow). Collect 3 Beans and cook them on the Frying Pan to make a Simple Hamburger Steak.
- Eating the steak strengthens Rock Smash, allowing you to destroy hard rocks.
Befriending Graveler and Learning Rollout
- Accept Machoke's request to receive a hint for the Mossy Boulder habitat.
- Return to the cave with the hot spring and place 4 Moss around the mossy boulder inside.
- Befriend Graveler by examining the swaying moss. Talk to Graveler to receive the Rollout move.
- Talk to both Machoke and Graveler to complete the request.
- Check the PC to confirm your Environment Level is at 3 or higher before moving on. If it is not, befriend more Pokemon and raise their comfort levels.
warning
Do not skip raising the Environment Level to 3. Professor Tangrowth will not advance the story until this condition is met.

How to Complete the "Time to Party!" Request
This is the major Important Request for Rocky Ridges, and it involves raising the mood of the area to 100 points before cooking a grand curry with Volcanion as the surprising finale.
Setting the Stage
- Talk to Scorbunny near the Pokemon Center and eat a Simple Hamburger Steak to power up Rock Smash.
- Smash through the wall and proceed through the cave, examining the radio at the back for a cutscene.
- Exit and report to Scorbunny, then talk to DJ Rotom outside the cave to start the Time to Party! request. This is a new Stereo Form of Rotom with an Electric/Normal dual typing.
- Talk to Chef Dente to receive the Party Cooking Pot.
- Clear the area where you received the request using Rock Smash and Rollout to remove volcanic ash and stones, then place the pot.
Raising the Mood to 100
Multiple activities contribute to the mood meter. Here is a summary of the main sources:
info
Simple Salad is the most efficient food to make for Party Platters, since it frees up your Wheat and Beans for the curry later.
Cooking the Grand Curry and Meeting Volcanion
- Once the mood hits 100, talk to DJ Rotom, then Chef Dente to decide on the curry.
- Gather the ingredients: 15 Leppa Berries, 15 Wheat, 15 Beans, and 15 Honey. Large quantities of Wheat and Beans grow in the fields behind the cave northwest of the map. Honey comes from glowing flowers.
- Bring Chef Dente and 4 other Pokemon to the Party Cooking Pot and add the ingredients.
- The curry takes 6 real-world minutes to cook. You can advance the Switch 2's system clock to skip the wait if needed.
- Once cooking is done, talk to Professor Tangrowth to trigger a cutscene with Volcanion.
- Climb to the top of the mountain to meet Volcanion. Use Water Gun to hit the lava and turn it into solid blocks you can walk across.
- Talk to Volcanion. Despite initial complaints about the noise and humans, the Steam Pokemon warms up when it sees your reaction and caps the celebration with a firework display.
- Return to the party area and talk to Professor Tangrowth near the pot to officially complete the Time to Party! request.
With all four major objectives wrapped up, Rocky Ridges transforms from a desolate wasteland into a lively settlement complete with a working kitchen, a DJ booth, and a party that even a grumpy Volcanion cannot resist.
