The Storm Gem sits atop the large staircase near Knowledge Keeper Wourha's study in Queen's Domain, inside the Tower of Knowledge. Reaching it means clearing two different gargoyle puzzles, but the nearby locked doors require another item: the Forbidden Archives Key. That comes from Budaen, the dying soldier reached through the rotating-staircase mechanism. Collect the gem first, then head underneath the stairs for the switch. That detour opens the route to the key and lets you continue into the Forbidden Archives.

What do you need to enter the Tower of Knowledge?

The Tower of Knowledge is the third major region, following the Isle of Neasied and Obmuer Temple. For the western bridge approach, you need Holy Sword Endu and at least 2 Wind Dash charges. You also need the Azure Torch, obtained from the gargoyle statue at the tower's eastern approach.

Use the Azure Torch to light all three outdoor gargoyle beacons. These open the tower entrance. The numbered statues on the interior balcony belong to a separate puzzle, so keep the exterior beacon task and the balcony solution separate.

Once inside, save at the Crystal Monument before pushing toward the upper floors. Tower enemies can apply multiple status effects, making that save a useful stop before the climb toward Wourha's study.

How do you find the Storm Gem staircase?

Climb it all the way to the Storm Gem platform.

Which balcony gargoyles should you light?

On the tower balcony, use the Azure Torch to light gargoyles 3 and 7. Those two statues unlock the nearby passage that leads farther up the tower.

Go through the newly opened door and continue to the next save point. Beyond that, the stairwell takes you toward the upper fast-travel point and Knowledge Keeper Wourha's study.

Where is the correct upper staircase?

The landmark you want is the huge staircase beside the upper fast-travel point, near Wourha's study.

Find Wourha's upper tower study

Follow these landmarks in order:

  • The passage opened by gargoyles 3 and 7.
  • The save point and stairwell beyond that passage.
  • The upper fast-travel point near Wourha's study.
  • The huge staircase leading to the Storm Gem.

Pick up the Storm Gem before working on the staircase mechanism below. Recovering it awards Raging Tempest and enables Endu's charged storm attack. The doors above the pickup still require the Forbidden Archives Key.

How do you get the Forbidden Archives Key?

The Forbidden Archives Key comes from Budaen, the dying soldier below this part of the tower. Reaching him requires a detour beneath the Storm Gem staircase, followed by a staircase rotation and an elevator ride.

How do you reach Budaen?

Start at the large staircase where you collected the gem, then follow this route:

  1. Look beneath the staircase. Find the lower platform or opening under the Storm Gem area.
  2. Wind Dash across to the platform. This gives you access to the staircase mechanism.
  3. Activate the switch beneath the stairs. The mechanism rotates the grand staircase and changes which route it reaches.
  4. Climb the repositioned stairs. Follow the newly accessible route to the central tower elevator, then ride down.
  5. Speak to Budaen. Collect the Forbidden Archives Key from the dying soldier before returning upstairs.

Rotate the tower's grand staircase

The switch's position is easier to understand if you picture the staircase after it turns. Look around the lower area where its bottom end would arrive, rather than searching beside the locked Archives doors.

Where do you use the key?

Return to the two locked doors near the upper Storm Gem route and use the Forbidden Archives Key. This opens the way into the Forbidden Archives and toward The Necronomicon encounter. Save again before continuing into the gauntlet.

The Storm Gem and the Archives key solve different problems. The gem upgrades Endu's combat kit; Budaen's key handles the locked doors. Once you have collected the gem, the next progression step is underneath the staircase.

How do you use the Storm Gem with Endu?

The Storm Gem is a combat upgrade for Holy Sword Endu, not a separate weapon to equip. It fills the socket in the middle of Endu's guard and enables a storm attack that builds charge slowly. The upgrade also applies to Soul Bound Endu.

After collecting it, look for the Special Attack Meter on your HUD beside the Wind Dash row. That meter tells you when the storm attack is ready.

To fire the storm:

  1. Use Holy Sword Endu or Soul Bound Endu.
  2. Let the Special Attack Meter fill completely.
  3. Activate the sword's special ability using your assigned Special control.

Check the controls menu for your binding rather than assuming a particular keyboard key or controller button. The storm belongs to Endu's special ability, so trying to use the gem as a standalone item is the wrong approach.

If you want to make Endu part of a broader weapon setup, the Queen's Domain melee damage build covers weapon choices and special-attack planning.

Does the Storm Gem give you more Wind Dashes?

Wind Gems increase your maximum Wind Dash charges. The Storm Gem occupies a different socket and enables the storm attack instead. Endu has separate sockets for 5 Wind Gems and 1 Storm Gem.

Weapon leveling is another separate upgrade path. Holy Sword Endu reaches Soul Bound Endu at level 10, independently of collecting the Storm Gem. Keep these upgrades separate when deciding what your sword is missing.

UpgradeWhat it changesWhat to check
Storm GemEnables Endu's charged storm attack and Special Attack MeterWhether you collected the gem above the huge tower staircase
Wind GemsAdd 1 maximum Wind Dash charge per gem, with 5 gems totalYour Wind Dash indicators and remaining Wind Gem pickups
Weapon XPImproves weapon damage and leads to Soul Bound Endu at level 10Endu's weapon level
Forbidden Archives KeyOpens the locked Archives doorsWhether you spoke to Budaen below the rotating stairs

If your problem is crossing a gap, look at your Wind Dash charges. If your problem is the locked upper doors, follow the route to Budaen. Neither problem is solved by waiting for Endu's storm meter to fill.

For help deciding where Endu fits among your other weapons, the best Queen's Domain melee weapons guide compares weapon roles, locations, and evolution options.

What comes after the Forbidden Archives doors?

With Budaen's key collected, return to the upper doors and continue toward The Necronomicon. The Storm Gem is available before this boss, so you can recover it and unlock Raging Tempest before taking on the Archives encounter.

Defeating The Necronomicon awards the Acid Vial and Golden Duck Figurine. The Acid Vial lets throwing daggers melt fleshy barriers on the route toward Deimpo Mausoleum, giving your ranged equipment a progression role after the tower boss.

If you need help choosing when to use daggers rather than melee attacks, the Queen's Domain throwing weapons guide explains their role alongside your close-range options.

For the immediate tower route, keep the order simple: collect the Storm Gem above the huge staircase, reach the platform underneath it, rotate the stairs, and take the elevator down to Budaen. His Forbidden Archives Key is what gets you through the upper doors.
