Overview

Safrootics is a catch-them-all RPG that's currently in Alpha testing. You are taken on a journey through a stunning pixel art style world, that aims to immerse players in an adventure to find and capture creatures called Safrootics, or Tics for short. With 419,904 Tics to catch on launch, each one is visually unique, featuring an illustrated PFP and pixel art sprite.

Safrootics aims to take players on an adventure through its lore, NPCs, and quests. The game world is richly detailed and filled with a variety of creatures and characters. However, players will have to pay attention as there are limited user prompts for quests outside of narratives given by the NPCs, so it's important to explore and pay attention to the world around you. Currently, the amount of lore and quests implement is limited, and at certain levels, it is difficult to find the right area to battle for leveling up, but this has been improving with every patch.

Gameplay

You start the game with an introduction that takes you through a section of the world whilst one of the wise NPCs lays out the general goings-on, asking you about how you arrived in their area of the world. After reaching the main village he gives you a Tic of your own. Your Tic has a range of stats such as physical attack, spell defense, and speed. It also has a Magix. This is important as the Magix has a cycle of counters, for example, fire Tics do double spell damage to nature Tics.

As the game stands you’ll spend the majority of your time rummaging in bushes, under rocks, and in trees looking for the shrunken Tics. Players battle their Tics against mobs and other Tics in an auto battler, earning XP, gold, ting, and items as they win. The game also features a unique leveling system, where Tics' stats are randomly generated within boundaries, meaning that a Tank Tic is always more likely to roll tank stats. This randomization also applies to skills, making each Tic truly one-of-a-kind.

The drop rate of Tics is low and they can only be found in certain spots at certain times. To make sure the game is fair across all time zones it operates with a 12-hour day cycle, to give everyone a chance of going searching day and night. If you do manage to find a Tic firstly you’ll have to reduce its health to 0 making it faint, you then complete a simple minigame. From what I’ve seen of the mini-game, the mechanic could be changed to make it seem more challenging and/or necessary as it is currently pretty straightforward.

Review

As you battle you’ll be filling your purse and inventory, so the game also features an NPC marketplace to trade Tics and items. On full launch it will have a peer-to-peer market place which will allow players to trade with other players, making the game more interactive and social.Safrootics offers both PVP battles with leaderboards and PVE dungeon crawls, each with its own set of rankings. You can challenge other players to prove your skills and Tics, or tackle dungeons for rewards and bragging rights. In conclusion, Safrootics is perfect for players who love immersing themselves in a new world and adoring cute creatures. It'll be exciting to see how the game evolves as it expands into PvP.
