Slay the Spire 2 Boss Guide: How to Beat Soul Fysh

Soul Fysh is the final boss of the alternate Act 1 area known as the Underdocks, and it hits differently from what most players expect. The fight isn't about raw damage output. It's about reading a strict 5-turn pattern, managing the Beckon status cards Soul Fysh dumps into your deck, and finding the right windows to strike. If you walk in without understanding the rhythm, those unblockable Beckon hits will drain your HP before you know what happened.

What Makes Soul Fysh Dangerous?

Soul Fysh's biggest threat isn't a single massive hit. It's the Beckon status card mechanic. Each Beckon costs 1 Energy, and if you fail to exhaust or discard it before your turn ends, it deals 6 unblockable damage. That means no amount of block preparation will save you if you're holding Beckons you can't get rid of.

The boss places Beckons in both your draw pile and your discard pile, so they'll cycle through your hand at unpredictable moments. Managing these cards while still pushing offense is the core challenge of this encounter.

How Does the Soul Fysh Attack Pattern Work?

Soul Fysh follows a strict 5-turn rotation that repeats throughout the fight. Once you internalize it, you'll know exactly when to attack, when to block, and when to burn Energy on discarding Beckons.

Turn 1: Beckon Seeding

Soul Fysh opens by placing one Beckon in your draw pile and one in your discard pile. It doesn't attack on this turn, so use any available Energy to deal early damage. Don't panic about the Beckons yet, just be ready to exhaust them when they appear in your hand.

info
Low-cost cards are your best friends in this act. They keep your Energy flexible so you can exhaust Beckons without sacrificing your entire turn.

Turn 2: Heavy Aggression Window

Soul Fysh attacks for over 15 damage on turn 2. If you haven't drawn any Beckons, block what you can and pour damage into the boss. This is one of your primary offensive windows.

Cards like Regent's Reflect shine here because your block translates directly into damage dealt, letting you multitask offense and defense simultaneously. Discard any Beckons you've drawn rather than letting them sit.

Turn 3: Weak Hit Plus Another Beckon

The incoming attack drops below 10 damage on turn 3, but Soul Fysh adds another status card to your draw pile. Since the hit is light, prioritize your offense here. If you set up a strong hand on turn 2, this is the moment to cash in on it.

warning
Don't get comfortable tanking hits early. Your HP pool shrinks over the fight, and what feels manageable in rotation one becomes punishing in rotation two.

Turn 4: Intangible Buff (Best Offensive Window)

Soul Fysh buffs itself with Intangible for one turn. While Intangible is active, every hit you land is reduced to 1 damage, making your heavy hitters completely useless. The key here is to unload everything before the buff resolves. Get your big damage in during this turn's setup phase, then prepare blocks for the next turn.

If you're holding a Beckon and the 1 Energy would be better spent attacking before Intangible kicks in, tanking the 6 damage can be worth it. If your HP is already low, just discard.

Turn 5: Intangible Continues Plus Vulnerable Setup

Soul Fysh stays Intangible and prepares to hit you with 3 stacks of Vulnerable while dealing over 10 damage. Since your offense is still capped at 1 damage per hit, shift fully into defense mode. Block the incoming hit and exhaust any Beckons in your hand. You're just surviving until rotation two begins.

What Changes in the Second Rotation?

Once Soul Fysh completes its first 5-turn cycle, the 3 Vulnerable debuff from turn 5 kicks in at the start of rotation two. Vulnerable causes you to take 50% more damage from attacks, which turns every hit into a serious threat.

Tanking hits is no longer viable. Your strategy shifts to blocking incoming damage consistently, discarding Beckons as fast as possible, and hunting for the finishing blow. If you've dealt solid damage during rotation one, Soul Fysh should be low enough that you can close it out quickly before the Vulnerable stacks become overwhelming.

danger
The fight becomes significantly harder if you enter rotation two with Soul Fysh above 50% health. Focus your strongest turns (2 and 4) on maximizing damage output so you're not fighting an uphill battle when Vulnerable lands.

What Cards Work Best Against Soul Fysh?

Card selection heading into the Underdocks matters a lot for this fight. Here's what to prioritize:

  • Acrobatics: Draws cards and discards one, giving you a reliable way to cycle Beckons out of your hand without spending Energy on them.
  • Burning Pact: Exhausts a card and draws two, perfect for burning Beckons while refreshing your hand.
  • Regent's Reflect: Converts block into damage, letting you deal damage even on defensive turns when Beckons are eating your Energy.
  • Low-cost attack cards: Keeping your deck lean on Energy costs means a Beckon showing up won't paralyze your entire turn.
info
Cards that exhaust status cards rather than just discard them are preferable, since exhausted cards are permanently removed from your deck for the rest of the fight.

Key Tips for Beating Soul Fysh

  • Never ignore a Beckon in your hand unless you're confident the 6 unblockable damage won't put you in a dangerous spot.
  • Treat turns 2 and 4 as your primary damage windows. Turn 2 is straightforward offense, and turn 4 requires attacking before Intangible resolves.
  • Build your Act 1 deck around Energy efficiency. Every extra Energy point you have is one more option for handling Beckons without sacrificing your turn.
  • Once Vulnerable lands in rotation two, block-first thinking keeps you alive long enough to land the finishing blow.

Soul Fysh rewards players who respect the pattern. Once you've seen the 5-turn cycle a couple of times, the fight becomes a matter of execution rather than improvisation.
